Chris Stewart was grateful for the opportunity to bat with a runner in scoring position in the ninth inning. Yankees manager Joe Girardi was pleased he came through. Stewart had a tiebreaking RBI single in the ninth and David Phelps matched efforts with Felix Hernandez for six innings to help New York beat the Seattle Mariners 2-1 on Sunday.
