DeMarcus Cousins has had plenty of negative press about him but this shows another side to the juvenile antics. Article plus a video interview.....definitely worth the read. http://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/page/12dayschristmas2/christmas-demarcus-cousins
Interesting. For all the flak Boogie has taken (some of it rightfully so), a very positive piece comes out on his charity work with children and NOT ONE SINGLE RESPONSE. Anecdotal proof that people prefer the negative and will rant all day about that but something good is pointed out......and it's crickets. Time to go find a hate piece I guess....
More good vibes...this time from another player, Portland's own Pooh Jeter. http://hoopshype.com/2016/12/23/pooh-jeter-let-me-be-the-one-sticking-up-for-demarcus-cousins/
Boogie is actually way more talented than Sheed though, so it's like if you mixed Karl Malone with Sheed.
Bro, when some people get on the field/court that switch just gets turned on. I used to straight go at it with people on the basketball court at parks around town. Even almost fighting with close friends. It would be funny when I would see people who didn't know me and we'd be at a bar or somewhere and they would tell me that I was actually a cool guy. Said they wanted to kick my ass whenever we played hoops though. Kinda like with me on here. This is war with you guys, can't let my guard down. Off the board I'll have a beer with you, but not while posting. On a side note, my family is very close with Ndamukong Suh and his family, known him since he was a baby. Warrior on the field, great guy off it. Would let him babysit my kids! Don't let that on field persona fool you.
i have always maintained that I don't mind his antics and I think we need someone on this roster with an edge like that. I think its a sign of those elites who just want to win at all costs and just needs the right system to be controlled. I have always been concerned about his defense, but in many threads, many people including yourself, have convinced me that with the right lineups, he is good enough and it could work. Personally though, I take these stories with a grain of salt. First, its a tax right off for these players. Second, its publicity that is of the alternative to the norm for certain players and thus could simply be a ploy(Not saying this is) to try to sway opinion and his agent said you need to do more things like this and make them public to raise your stock value, cause its plummeting. Again, I am not saying this is true or even suggesting anything more than it is in the realm of possibilities, and certainly would not be the first time. Thirdly, I thought it was in most contracts that they must donate a certain percent or something? Am I completely off the wall here or is there any truth to that? Anyhow, Kudos to him, because in the end it isn't about him, its about the kids and regardless of how it plays out in the publicity side, the kids are benefiting and he said that's all that matters to him too. I think he is a passionate, outspoken, sometimes unthinking/reactionary individual who could be truly elite if he could find the right system that could reign him in just enough to be more of an asset than liability. He reminds me of a Cam Newton, or Richard Sherman. They are not going to appeal to everyone and they don't care. They are going to speak their mind and wear their emotions on their sleeve, and for a guy who lives like that himself, I find it very respectable even if he does cross the line at times. Emotions are hard to control but more often than not it helps players go from good to great or great to elite.
Maybe on the offensive end, but Sheed was a beast on D with a muich longer wingspan and knew how to use it. I would say the gap between their D is more than their gap on offense. remember during Sheed's prime here, he had several other go to players, DMC really has one. Sheed was called on more for D and to share the offense. DMC is their primary offense. If I were building a contending team I would take Sheed at my starting SF over DMC.
completely agreed that's why i only have a beer with your wife in person and respect her on the internet.
As I've said in another thread, I think Cousins isn't a malicious person, just too easily slighted on the court. I don't think he's a bad person or someone you can't work with. It all depends on the coach and whether Cousins wants to work with that coach. Any trade for Cousins (and I don't think he's all that available, based on what Zach Lowe says) would need to be contingent on him wanting to be in Portland.
How many coaches and GMs did you get fired? How many times did you threaten and physically intimate members of the local media? Were you paid tens of millions of dollars to do a job while repeatedly getting thrown out of the office and suspended by your employer? How many times did you throw your co-workers under the bus and blame them for your lack of success? This man is a professional basketball player. We're not talking playground antics here. I get it, he's passionate, he's competitive. But, he lets that passion get the better of him and it's a HUGE reason why his team hasn't any any success in the seven years he's been there. And don't give me that shit about a lack of quality teammates. There have been teams with far less talent, but far better leadership, make the playoffs in the last seven years. When your best player's negative antics hurts your team's performance, you need a new best player. BNM
If there's positive news that doesn't fit the narrative, this is especially true. "Good guys" like Mutombo, Duncan, Battier, Brian Grant, etc. were often celebrated for their charitable contributions, but a "Bad Guy" like Boogie? Honestly it's hard to reconcile that there may be a decent person in there. Side note: I can't recall witnessing a more embarrassing 55 point performance than he had the other night. The mouth piece, the tirade after the second T (that was overturned), the "This is ridiculous man" post game interview . . . he's not what the Blazers need. It seems like wishful thinking that Lillard could somehow tame him. Dame's never shown he has the personality of an in your face type of leader to begin with. He had chances to demonstrate with Lamarcus, but chose not to confront. And if you don't feel comfortable getting in LA's kitchen, it's probably not likely to happen with Boogie. Who knows if Counsins is even tamable with the best leadership? He's been a wild stallion for so long. Put him on Spurs with a roster of no-nonsense guys/coach? Nope, never mind - still can't see it. If the Blazers were to take a chance on a talent with character issues, a Draymond Green replica would be tempting (Defensive stopper, who brings effort & intensity every night & takes defense personal, & puts the team/winning above personal accolades) But that's not Cousins. Even if he were available, pass on him & let him be someone else's problem.
