I like him for possible relatively cheap C insurance, guy plays very good post D, my question is what kind of deal/price will he likely command? Is it possible he could be had for the 3 mil MLE?
I would love to have Hayes, but I suspect one of the teams needing to get over the league min salary will overpay him.
He'd be my #1 target. To say he's a solid defender is an understatement! He's 6'6" but has a career DRtg (at C/PF) of 101 and is even better in the playoffs with a career DRtg of 100.
Here's more "value fodder". Nene who is in huge demand supposedly did 14.5 PPG and 7.9 reb is 30.5 minutes last year, Hayes was 7.9 PPG, 8.1 rebs in 28 minutes. Some consider Hayes a top 3 post defener and top 10 team, he does not block shots but he is a heckuva defender. NENE is supposed to be in big demand and get what 10-12 mil per year? Hayes might be had for 3-4 mil per. Why the hell pay Nene for 6 more points per game when Hayes might be had for a 1/3 to 1/4 of the cost and is a better defender?
ChrisBHaynes Chris Haynes Source tells CSNNW Carl Landry's top deatinations are Portland, New Orleans, Indiana, and Boston | tinyurl.com/86orcgj #PDX #NBA #hornets Meh.
Landry would provide a nice scoring option for the Blazers off the bench. He can create his own offense. After that he doesn't give you much, though.
jwquick Jason Quick Duffy says Blazers are showing more interest in Joel Przybilla than Chuck Hayes. Hayes prob would be mini-mid level, so Blazers looking MLE?
EDIT: I ramble here, so read at your own peril. Each additional point is harder to get because you receive more defensive attention. So, he might only score 6 more points a game, but how much does his added offense decrease the burden on those around him. If his offense accounts to 3 additional points a game compared to Hayes (or some other player), no matter if he is the shooter or someone else on the team, then those 3 additional points can have a huge affect on wins/losses over the course of a season. Imagine a team that averages 98ppg and one that averages 101ppg. The 101 team is more likely to win more games. Of course if the 98ppg team is great defensively and can cause the opposing team to score 4ppg less than the 101ppg team can force, than that offsets any increase in offense and the lower scoring team would be better.
jwquick Jason Quick If looking MLE ($5 million a year for four years), Blazers probably targeting Carl Landry type. Prz would prob be signed for vet minimum
Can't Joel just do us a favor and sign for the league minimum? That said, I really want to see what Joel looks like. We saw a not completely ready Joel Przybilla last year for the Blazers, 60-70% at best. Guy is a warrior. He was still a productive rebounder. Think the team still needs scoring off the bench more than anything
League minimum on Joel MLE on scorer Or we can just bring over the Great White Hope that is Joel Freeland and win a championship this season!
I hear ya but his D IMO would probably make up for most of the scoring deficiency, and when your talkin 10-12 mil per yr vs 3-4 can ya really want nene more? If you had the money and no cap concerns maybe, but with this new CBA havin a guy like Hayes to me makes very good sense.
Why don't we just bring over Freeland and end all this debate. I'd love Hayes but for the money i'd like to take a flyer on Freeland.
The team would look like this... PG Felton/Smith/Johnson SG Wes/Batum/Williams SF Wallace/Batum PF Aldridge/Landry/Babbit C Camby/Oden/Pryz/Johnson
