<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Green Bay Packers receiver Donald Driver has signed a two-year contract extension that runs through 2009.

The general parameters of the contract were listed on the NFL Players Association Web site, and the deal was confirmed by an NFL source on Thursday afternoon. The source said the deal was completed last week.

The contract actually lowers Driver?s base salary for this season from $1.36 million to $950,000 but almost certainly includes some bonus money to be paid this season. The exact bonus was not immediately available.

The extension also raised Driver?s 2007 base salary from $1.84 million to $2.7 million. His base salaries for the two additional years are $2.9 million in 2008 and $3.9 million in 2009. Driver?s original contract expired after the 2007 season.

The Packers haven?t typically extended contracts of players with more than one year remaining, so it?s unclear why they did so with Driver, 31, who caught a career-high 86 catches for 1,221 yards and five touchdowns.</div>
Driver handled it the way a contract should be handled and got rewarded for it. Him and Franks are now locked up long term and probably Packers for the rest of their careers. I'm happy to see #80 here for another 4 years. He is by far one of the best all around guys on and off the field.

Did you see that Javon Walker threw Ted Thompson under the bus? He said that the reason he wanted out of Green Bay had nothing to do with Favre and everything to do with TT. He said he'd be happy to play with Favre again if it were anywhere else than Green Bay.

The Packers' deal with Donald Driver is similar to the damage control they did after the Mike McKenzie fiasco. After refusing to renegotiate his contract and then trading him away, the Packers re-did Al Harris's contract just weeks later because Al Harris never said anything publicly about being unhappy with his deal.

    Interesting.

I think it was a good deal for GB and DD got screwed out of millions by taking it. It was a good move by TT.

Only 2nd time in team history had they redid a contract with 2 or more years left. Only other time was Brett Favre.

So, Donald Driver has his salary lowered this year and people call it a reward? I hope he doesn't blow out his knee before he gets his bonus. (whatever that is)

You know it is a big signing bonus when agents makes release and doesnt mention the bonus. LOL btw it is only 4 years 17 million, and i doubt he took into account the salary decrease this year. So maybe 5 -6 million in bonus, i doubt it is up front. Basically, the packers stuck it to him cuz he wasnt willing to walk away. Good if you are a pack fan. bad if you are a packers player.

He get's his money up front this year. Anywheres from 2-5 mil is my guess. Probably no by tomorrow. He raises his base salary in 07 08 and 09.

EDIT: He really raise the amount of money he makes ever year. The bonus and based salary this year will be more than what he would've made.

He would have gotten a 45 million dollar deal on market. He should have held out. GB couldnt let him go too. He has bad agent. Classiness has nothing to do with it. Stupidness does.

No way he gets a 45 Mill on the market unless it's Dan Snyder paying for him. He's 31 years old. He would've gotten similar money to that of Eric Moulds but in 2 years who knows what he'd be worth at that time.

He likes Green Bay. I guess he's stupid for staying in the place that he loves.

Yeah, hold out with two years left on your deal...

I respect your football knowledge overall, BF1. You obviously know as much or more about football in general as anyone on the boards. However...your inherent hatred for anything "green and gold" and your penchant for sarcasm is sometimes a detriment to the environment here.

I think BF1 brings up a good point. Having traded Javon Walker, Donald Driver could have put the Packers in a rough spot by holding out. I think 45 million dollars is unrealistic, but the numbers that have been posted here seem a bit stingy in my eyes. Of course, the reduction in this year's salary is justified by some mysterious bonus that no one can offer anything but speculation regarding the amount.

BF1's hatred of the Packers may make some of his statements lean a bit to the extreme, but no more than some of the statements made by some of the cheeseheads in here. It seems like no player could ever have a dispute with management without being a classless piece of crap even though cheeseheads often admit that Ted Thompson is cheap. The one except to every rule is Brett Favre. If Jesus had a rocket right arm, then maybe he might be as perfect as Brett. I like the Packers. I like Brett. However, I resent the implication that Javon Walker isn't a classy player just because he was trying to stand up for himself. I don't think it excuses the crappy way he was being treated because he wasn't being a good little boy and keeping his mouth shut. I just wonder if you'll keep supporting Ted Thompson's cheapness when you end up wearing Bears avatars again at the end of the year.

Based on what Walker said about Thompson, I don't blame him for leaving. I'm glad the Broncos got him and I'm glad he got his payday.

And yeah, I guess some of us do tend to see the world through Green and Gold colored glasses. I shouldn't begrudge BF1 for seeing the world in Black and Orange.

I certainly would <u>never</u> tease a fan of another team. Too much class for that.

I like how you qoute one statement. That your player is worth a lot of money, i.e. he is good, and say that proves i am just hating on the packers. I also like how you didnt quote taht i thought it was a good deal if you are a packers fan. In other words, the team did what was best for them to win. Yep, come see the bias. Oh wait, maybe it is just your bias towards me as a bearsfan that drove that comment. That makes sense.

Come on, every Dolphins fan on here puts their football faith with Nick Saban. Why can't I put it with Ted Thompson.

I also said I don't blame Walker for asking for more money

I'm honestly sick of saying that.

I do disagree with how he handled the situation especially after hearing what Chris Mortenson reported on the Dan Patrick show. Walker had nothing against the Packers. Nothing against Brett Favre. Nothing against the Fans. 90% of the reason why he wanted out of Green Bay was MONEY. I'm sure that's why Walker feels anger at Ted Thompson. After seeing the contract he signed which makes him the #3 highest paid WR in the NFL behind only Marvin and Moss, I'm glad Green Bay didn't give a one good year one pro bow WR that kind of money.

Driver could of held out but he's not like that. He rather come to practice and work on winning. He rather help the team than be a distraction like a Terrell Owens is. Driver did everything I've been preaching about when handling a contract and he hit a nice pay day.

As for Brett. I was getting a little frustrated with what took him so long. I even said he needs to make up his mind. I constantly bring up to fellow Packer fans that Favre threw 29 INT's last year and that the team is rebuilding. I didn't like the imaginary deadline people made up on this forum just so they could bitch and moan about Favre, so I defended the QB I've watched for the last 15 years like you would defend Marino.

We have 12 draft picks this year. 14 rookies from last year. 25 potential 1st and 2nd year players. So I expect to finish behind the Bears like you guys expect to finish behind the Patriots [IMG] (Last year) I like the Packers future. If Rodgers it the QB that many scouts thought he was coming out of college then I have no hesitation in saying Green Bay will be back on top in a couple of years. Just need our players to develop like Miami was did, like every team has done at one time or another.

It's early in the Nick Saban era, but he hasn't done anything for me to knock him. Surely, you haven't forgotten the crap that I gave "Teflon" Dave. Yes, Saban has the DWO stamp of approval, but I'm sure that we will be able to discuss any shortcomings objectively. Just don't hold your breath waiting because, so far, Saban has been brilliant.

Don't forget, Javon Walker DID NOT HOLD OUT. He said that he would, but then reconsidered, came in and got injured. Walker never seems to get credit for coming in, just bashed for threatening to hold out.

I never had to defend Dan Marino for not being able to make up his mind if he wanted to play. Marino loved the game and would have come back for another year if "Teflon" Dave hadn't forced him out so that he could bring in Jay Feeble.

I'm not so sure that the Pack will be back until they fire Ted Thompson. Thompson stikes me as the type of GM that will turn the Packers into a K-Mart type team (like the Bengals before Marvin Lewis) if he isn't stopped. I hope I'm wrong, but I think I see more front office changes before the Packers turn things around.

Edit - By the way, while I respect the Patriots, I haven't inked them in to win the AFC East this year. My Phins may just give them some real competition this year.
