A letter clay bennett wrote to the governor of washington about the state of the sonics arena situation that insidehoops.com got and posted: http://www.insidehoops.com/bennett-letter-011807.shtml
Casual, I have been looking at your sig and trying to figure out why you think he would come back and save us?
Very well written. It even sounded sincere. At the end of the day I think that it is going to be extremely hard to get the state to finance an arena that will be primarily used to house the Sonics and the Storm. With the apathy surrounding the Sonics there will be a huge resistance for public funding to support this arena. The governor, the state senate, the mayor, and all of the other political figures in this region are all politicians, which means they need public votes to retain their position. It is amazing that Clay has the audacity to ask for public funds without giving an estimate of what funds are going to come from the private sector. That is like me going to my boss and asking him for a raise and then telling him that I don't know whether I am going to be able to perform to the standard that he expects of me. Until there is an estimate of how much funds Clay's people are going to put into this project I have serious doubts that this arena will be built -- which means that the Sonics will be looking for a new home shortly. Clay is postering but the governor and all other politicians are not going to be using tax payers money to finance an arena unless their money is matched by the people that will be profitting from the revenue that this arena will produce. That is the easiest way to lose votes -- increasing taxes to support a team that no one cares about anyway. Don't think that is going to happen.
