<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Clements' agent arrives for talksBy ALLEN WILSON News Sports Reporter8/17/2005 PITTSFORD - The Buffalo Bills and cornerback Nate Clements are ready to start talking contract. Clements' agent, Todd France, attended training camp at St. John Fisher College on Tuesday and is scheduled to meet with the Bills brass today to discuss a possible contract extension for Clements. "We plan to talk (today) and continue to talk throughout the preseason to see if something can get done," Bills President and General Manager Tom Donahoe said. "Until we sit down and start to hammer it out, it's hard to say what's going to happen." The five-year contract Clements signed as a rookie in 2001 expires at the end of this season, thus making him an unrestricted free agent. The Bills could make him their franchise player if a new deal isn't struck before free agency begins. Such a designation would entitle Clements to a one-year contract worth the average salary of the 10 highest-paid cornerbacks in the NFL. That figure is $8.8 million this year, but will likely be higher in 2006. Considering the going rate for top-flight cornerbacks, Clements could command a fat contract with an eight-digit signing bonus. France's visit is the first step in what could be a lengthy process. But Clements' desire to stay in Buffalo could help in the negotiation process. "Nate has expressed that publicly, and that's a key," Donahoe said. "We'll give it our best shot and see what happens." Running back Willis McGahee was in good spirits as he walked around chatting with teammates and coaches Tuesday. But that was about the only physical activity he took part in. McGahee, who appeared to hurt his right knee in last Saturday's preseason game at Indianapolis, was held out of practice for the second straight day. "It's hot," McGahee said jokingly when asked why he wasn't practicing. He wouldn't address his situation when pressed on it, deferring all questions to coach Mike Mularkey. According to Mularkey, McGahee was being held out as a precautionary measure. It is not certain if McGahee will take part in today's double session, but Mularkey said he anticipates that McGahee will play in Saturday's preseason home opener against Green Bay. Quarterback J.P. Losman is looking forward to Saturday's preseason game. It will be special to him because it's the first game he'll play in Ralph Wilson Stadium as the starter. "We'll see what happens," he said. "The players are going to be excited for me getting my first opportunity like that. And a lot of fans are going to be excited. I'm just going to feed off other people's energy and mine as well. For me, I'm going to try and calm myself down, but we'll see if that's possible."</div>http://x.go.com/cgi/x.pl?name=MyESPNLocal-...817/2015057.aspWow, get something done please! We need to lock Nate up with a long term deal, He's only 25 and is among the NFL's elite CBs. Losing Nate would be disasturous to us. If we get him locked up with a good deal He and Terrence McGee will become a mean CB Duo. McGee is a budding playmaker and learning very well with our Veteran Secondary's tutiladge. Anyways, I'm praying Nate gets a long term deal and dosen't get anywhere near testing Free Agency. [IMG]

Oh yeah, we definitely need Nate Clements back. Losing Antoine Winfield hurt, but if we also can't hold on to Clements it will be a back breaker. However, it also depends on the market and how many quality corners there are out there. We got to keep this defense together.
