<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">The Clippers have waived forward Glen Rice and activated forward/center Melvin Ely from the injured list. Ely, who has missed the last 12 games while on the injured list with influenza, has tallied 4.1 points and 3.3 rebounds in 18 games played this season. Rice, a 14-year NBA veteran, averaged 3.7 points and 14.6 minutes in 18 games played. </div> Link: http://www.nba.com/clippers/news/rice_waived_040116.html Wow, didn't expect Rice to be waived, I thought he was still worth something with his shooting ability.
I think the Magic or Heat should sign him. He can score quick points from the perimeter and is good at taking the load off of star players. Too bad he is so old, otherwise his defense would be better.
Yeah I'm surprised the Clips cut him... he gave them that outside threat, as well as vet leadership. Plus I remember that bucket he made a few weeks ago or whenever to give LA the win... so yeah there are many people I'd have cut over him... perhaps he wasn't happy (who is in Clipper-land?) Back to the Heat? It might be nice. He started with the heat, I remember when he was actually a good player (not just a 3 point shooting role player) he was so good Charlotte gave up Alonzo Mourning to get him... although I do believe it was a sign and trade. He won All-Star MVP while in Charlotte... shows how quickly they fall. When he went to LA (then New York, then Houston) it was pretty much over for him. Reminds me of Mitch Richmond's career.
yeh I think he should go to a veteran team...detroit could use an outside shooter off the bench...Houston could even use him back (damn Piatkowski lol)...I never thought that he would fit in with a young team struggling to make the playoffs...
I was shocked when I saw this too, I thought for sure the Clippers would keep him around considering their lack of veterans in the lineup. I'm assuming that due to his lack of playing time behind Maggette, Rice requested the waivers. He probably just wasn't happy sitting on the bench and collecting DNP's. Too bad though, he's still a valuable commodity.
Rice is a future HoFer, so any team that could fit him on their roster ought to try. I'm only surprised that the Clips waived him because they said they wanted to win this year. Maybe they've already decided to give up for the year.

They wanted to put him on injured reserve with Ely coming back, but he told them he wanted to get released instead. So the clipps respected his wishes.

He has no stamina, strength or endurance, well not enough to contend with anyone in the league anymore. He'd be outran, outshot and simply just plain ousted. He'd be a useful reliever and support player though........
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting starman85:</div><div class="quote_post">Rice is a future HoFer</div> I wouldn't send him to Springfield quite yet. The last 6 years are going to haunt him, his career has taken a huge fall since leaving Charlotte. Not to mention he hasn't really WON with the teams he's been on... I don't recall any of the teams he was on going very far into the playoffs, I'm not blaming him, but it will hurt his chances of people voting him in. He probably has a lot of 3-point records, he's got over 18,000 points, but because of the reasons stated above I'm not going to concider him a Hall of Famer. Maybe he'll be inducted, I just don't think he is a Hall of Famer.

Rice is one of the greatest shooters the game has ever seen, but the last handful of years have really hurt his chances at the HOF. If he would have went out on top with the Lakers, things may have been different. Glen's numbers compare pretty favorably, but he's one of those guys that you have to think about. To me, a HOF'er should be no-doubt, a dominant player. If you have to go back and compare stats, they're probably not quite HOF caliber. Rice never was a dominant pro player, although, I might consider him an NCAA hall of famer. He was a pretty dominant college player.

Without G it's doubtful if Michigan would have gotten their NCAA title. He was head and shoulders above most cats in college. He was the top 100 college players list compiled by Sporting News.

They needed his leadership in those tight games down the stretch - dude was instant offense. If I remember correctly, I think that team also had Vaught, Blaylock, S. Higgins and R. Marble to go along with G-$...Although I could be wrong about Roy. Glad to hear Glen got the respect he deserves from TSN. Slashing, dunking, drainin' threes, he could do it all back in those days.
It's sad that Glen Rice is unemployed right now....but I'll always remember the contributions he gave to the 2000 Laker team. The first championship is always special.

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting HighHeat:</div><div class="quote_post">Rice is a lazy ass</div> I don't think that's the case man, gotta remember, Glen isn't exactly a youngster anymore. He worked out hard in the offseason, dropped about 30 lbs., but it just looks like he's lost a shooter's most important asset - his legs. G had a great career, but I think it's just about over right now.
