Since the recent hot topic is clutch players, why not make a topic especially for it?My top 3 are Melo, Kobe, and Paul Pierce.Melo is w/o a doubt the best in the last posession, but Paul Pierce and Kobe Bryant are the two leading scorers in the fourth quarter (Kobe is 1st. Highest all-time since they started recording the stat).
This stat doesn't tell you much because Kobe is by far the most clutch player in the league. But it is an interesting stat in my opinion.Game Winning Shot Opportunity = 24 seconds or less left in the game, team with the ball is either tied or down by 1 to 2 points. Why use this definition? 1. With 24 seconds or less, then it truly is a "last possession" situation potentially 2. With a margin from tied to down 2, the team can take the lead with a made basket (including 3's) 3. By excluding a down 3 situation, we don't have the "gimme two point buckets" that defenses will sometimes yield to the quick bucket/intentional foul strategy option you often see exercised.Obviously though this definition means a shot may not actually be a game winner -- it may only tie a game (if down two points) or it may allow enough time for the opponents to get a game winning shot of their own. Still it seems a reasonable compromise. So here are the stats for player who take a shot with 24 seconds or less left on the clock ot either tie or win the game.Notice Carmelo's percentage. The best in the league. Here are the players who we all thought were clutch but these numbers dont prove that.Props to 82games.com for the stats.

Pierce hits as may airballs as shots when the game's on the line but that's why I love him. I think this stat is kind of stupid, I really don't think there's players that suddenly become better when the game's on the line.

I'm not taking anything away from Carmelo but the shots he has to take and the shots Carmelo has to take are much different. Kobe at the end has to shoot it over two people, Carmelo usually is assigned one played [yesterday an the suns game was different].Interms of 4th quarters i'd take Kobe then Wade then Pierce than melo. However for the last shot Carmelo is at number one.
Melo is a clutch player. Tracy McGrady is questionable because he doesn't always pull through. Kobe is clutchest in the fourth quarter overall. But Melo is the best with the last secound shot.
Yeah Melo is clutch.... haha not really.Look at it this way, Carmelo hasn't got out of the first round in the playoffs yet right? And your calling that clutch?I don't get it.

He hit some big shots in those series so I dont want to hear that.People need to stop hating and watch some Nuggets games.

I love it, another Kobe fan showing he only cares about Kobe and doesn't know sh*t about the rest of the league. As for clutch players, these are my top 5, in order:1) Kobe Bryant2) Dywane Wade3) Paul Pierce4) Carmelo Anthony5) Allen Iverson
Carmelo's good in the final minute, guys like Wade, kobe and others thrive in the entire 4th. Wade has also hit a big shot in the playoffs as a rookie so he has to be there.
Exactly, Wade is IMO the 2nd most clutch player in the NBA. And if you want to put him leading Heat through playoffs without Shaq clutch, and carrying a Heat team in ECF clutch, then that even adds more to him.
The reason why wade isn't mentioned is because he doesn't have alot of gamewinners so nobody remembers hi clutch 4th quarters.
Wade's game winners always seems to be overshadowed. He hit one in OT against the Jazz, but it was the same day as the infamous brawl. His game 1 winner against the Hornets in the playoffs, was over shadowed by other good game 1 games. His GW in the ASG was overruled by Lebron's supremecy by TNT.His lone GW that most people remember is the one against the Knicks and Pistons of a few weeks ago.
