<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">DALLAS ? Title in hand, guard Gary Payton told the Seattle Times on Tuesday night he'd like to return to the Heat next season, which would be his 17th year in the NBA.

But no such announcements came Wednesday from coach Pat Riley or center Alonzo Mourning, whose returns are in question.

And beyond that is the question of how to best prepare this team to defend its NBA title. Miami has no draft picks, having dealt them in preparation for this season ? Miami's first championship in its 18-year history.

Riley, who won his fifth title as a coach, didn't want to return to the bench this season but felt he had no choice after former coach Stan Van Gundy resigned Dec. 12 to tend to family matters. So now the question is whether Riley returns as coach. And if he doesn't, as president of the Heat, who does he trust to run this team?

Who would know how to best utilize a talent such as guard Dwyane Wade, the MVP of the Finals? Who would center Shaquille O'Neal respect, and would he respect a coach who doesn't have a title?

It's unlikely that Van Gundy, once Riley's most trusted assistant, would return to the Heat bench next season.

Recent title-winning coaches Phil Jackson (Los Angeles Lakers) and Gregg Popovich (San Antonio) aren't available. Perhaps Larry Brown (New York) will be available, but that doesn't seem to be a good fit. Mike Fratello (Memphis) is a former Heat television analyst and knows Riley, the team and some of the players, but he's not available.</div>

What do you think, if Riley doesn't return as head coach should the Heat sign Larry Brown?

I think Larry Brown will work for the Heat, they would listen to him, unlike the Knicks last season. But personally, I think Pat Riley should stay another year or two, he seemed to enjoy coaching and now that he has won another cahmpionship, he should want more. I think re-signing everyone should be a priority, as the Heat won their first championship and had a great run, beating a few good teams along the way.

Pat Riley should return, however I don't think he will. He hates all the traveling involved as a head coach. It keeps him away from his family and he felt he couldn't do a good job trying to manage both the GM/Head coaching duties.

I think his decision will be made once he sees who he can get in the offseason. If he can unload some of his younger players for veterans it might be enough to lure Riley back to the sidelines.

Dorrell Wright is going to be their main asset to unload in the summer, and possibly Wayne Simien.

Hey this could be a great chance for Larry Brown to redeem himself. After what he's been through in New York, I'm not sure if he wants to coach again tho. But if he wanted to redeem his stigma, this may be his best chance.

Btw, i don't think it's a good idea to let either one of the young players go. Team is getting old, we need some young guns.
