<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Hill said he has spoken with Magic players Grant Hill, Steve Francis and Pat Garrity, and will try to contact or visit as many as he can. Hill said his conversation with Francis "went well. Stevie was just getting off a plane and he was tired, but we had a good talk." Francis figures to be Hill's greatest challenge, as he has been for most coaches in his career. The Magic's leading scorer is a dynamic talent and often a clutch performer late in games. But he also is prone to turnovers, emotional outbursts and moments of defiance. Under former general manager John Weisbrod, the tentative plan had been for Francis to move from point guard to shooting guard. Francis spent time at both positions after the all-star break. But Hill said it was "too early" for him to begin projecting the future of players he hasn't coached. Should the Magic decide to turn Francis into a shooting guard, they would need a starting point guard. They are comfortable with Jameer Nelson coming off the bench. The Magic have the 11th selection in a point-guard-heavy draft. But unless they find a way to trade up, the most coveted ones -- Chris Paul, Deron Williams and Raymond Felton -- likely will have been taken. Jarrett Jack of Georgia Tech likely will be available but is considered a reach with the 11th pick. Players who appeal to the Magic -- and who probably will be available -- are shooting guard Martell Webster, a high-schooler from Seattle; forwards Sean May, Charlie Villanueva, Hakim Warrick, Joey Graham, Wayne Simien and Danny Granger; and shooting guard Rashad McCants. The Magic also could try to pick up a free-agent point guard or trade for one, perhaps offering center Kelvin Cato, who has an expiring contract.</div> Source The Magic are wasting Jameer coming off the bench.
Jameer would be wasted on the bench. If they draft a pg I will be very dissapointed, nelson is better than jack, this i know is true. The only reason Francis would play 2 is for Nelson to play, off the point, the magic need a center more than any other position.
I would prefer Jameer coming off the bench and Francis playing PG then Jameer and Francis starting together, just because of the matchup problems that our D will be forced to guard with undersized Jameer and undersized(at the SG position) Francis. Opposing PG/SG's would have career games against us. We need to draft either a SG or a C, IMO. Also don't forget that Stevenson could back up the PG position and Hill can also play PG, so PG really isn't a need right now, that's probably the position that I will be most pissed off at if we draft it.
Not a defensive liability if Jameer can play better D than some taller guards, it's not about height it's about how good at d you are, some people i.e. tayshaun use their height to become better players but not everyone who's tall is great at d, and not everybody who's short is bad, i never once saw someone just take uncontested shots over jameer cauusa his height. And Jameer is better than francis anyway, sure francis has been in the league longer and he's more athletic, but jameer IS a better player, I guarantee he is!
