<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Grizzlies coach Mike Fratello insisted during a radio interview that his communication with guard Bonzi Wells was reasonable and that Wells may have put individual goals ahead of the team. In an interview Monday morning on Sporting News Radio, host James Brown said: "Character translates to success on the floor. With that in mind, what was Bonzi Wells doing that didn't fit with what the team was trying to accomplish, and led to your benching him?" Fratello sounded as though the veteran guard would not return, and Wells knows why. "He's a guy who is in that last year of his contract. It's an option year at the Grizzlies' option," Fratello said. "Bonzi and I had more than one conversation. The fact it was printed that Bonzi said we didn't communicate ... that is not the truth. "I went to Bonzi more than just one time. We tried to sit down and talk about what was in the best interests of the team. Obviously, I respect his interests and his own personal regards as far as the fact that this is a big year for his contract status. But I didn't think that the contract status should become the paramount thing. I felt that winning and team was most important. </div> Source
Hubie Brown was the only coach so far who has been able to harness the tremendous talent and temperment that is Bonzi Wells. Fratello needs to make a phone call to Brown and find out how he did it. Wells is a great player to have on your team if you can motivate him properly.
Czar doesn't have to make any calls. Wells will be gone and he shouldn't be missed. It will open more PT for Battier, Posey and Miller, plus it gives Jones (who I believe is more talented than the 3 players listed) a chance to play.
