One huge thing that doesn't get mentioned enough is the fact that not only do we have the best coaching staff in football, we really have three head coaches that always seem to be on the same page. I feel for both Crennel and Weis because the system has screwed them out of head coaching jobs twice now yet guys like Jim Mora Jr and Mike Mularkey get jobs when they are probably coming off there worst seasons as a coach. I just don't get it but am absolutey glad ot have Crennel and Weis back in the fold for one more year. The question is will the rest of the NFL be stupid enough to pass on one of these guys next year and how big of an advantage is it to be able to keep the key components of your staff together (Pioli, Weis, Crennel, and Belichick)?

It's just a matter of time before they get dismantled. That coaching staff is the best, hands down. Why they haven't been approached is beyond me. Maybe there's personality issues or even political issues. Sometimes we just don't know.

Ya I find it amazing that guys coming off of losing teams get hired over two assistants who have had nothing but success. Personally I'd rather take a chance on weis or crennel than hire Jim Mora Jr if I was the falcons even if I could only interview Crennel and/or Weis once. I understand they both will be head coaches very soon but to keep them together for one more season is just fine by me.

Belichek didn't really get his due until he had a chance (OK, another chance) to get out from under Parcells's shadow. Parcells is a top coach, but he got too much of the credit. He had a great staff under him...including Weis.

Now that Belichek is getting his due, I have to wonder if Weis is still a victim of the program/system he is in. If you can say that Parcells got too much credit, can you say the same thing about Belichek a little. Same goes for Crennel, I guess.

I think, given time, they will get their chance still.

Ya I agree maybe around the country belichick gets too much credit but both weis and crennel are comended in New England for their playcalling and ability to coach their players but Belichick is the guy with the final say on everything especially personel so I think he deserves the credit he is getting.

Every assistant is a product of their "system". Remember the old saying, "No man is an island"? Well no coach is either. It takes the right personnel and staff to make it happen.

I agree Pats. A head coach should get credit alone for being smart enough to evaluate coaching talent (not just plyaers) and surrounding himself with good assistants.

Was Walsh a good coach, or just a good talent guy who was smart enough to hire good assistants? Who knows and who cares....either way, the job gets done.

So, I guess I don't imply necessarily that Belichek shouldn't get the credit he gets. Like any head coach, he gets too much credit when they win and too much blame when they lose...but he is the head coach.

That doesn't help the good assistants that he has though.

Or perhaps the jobs that Crennel and/or Weis wanted were already taken by the time they were allowed to do any interviewing (because the Pats weren't yet eliminated from post-season play).

That is the main reason for my first post. Thats what I meant by saying I would rather take a chance on Crennel or Weis with one interview than someone else who was able to come out for more than one interview because his team didn't make it or got knocked out in the first round of the playoffs.
