<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">And McHale wants a coach who is a taskmaster and tough as nails yet an excellent communicator. As if such a creature exists.

Under the current circumstances, there's no way McHale can hire one of the assistants to take over as coach. All three assistants might be good choices under normal circumstances, but a new face is needed after two old faces couldn't get it done.</div>
    <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">
One theory is that the Wolves will try to pluck an assistant coach off one of this season's successful playoff teams. The names Mike Brown, of Indiana, and Tom Thibodeau, of Houston, have popped up here and there.

I really like former Trail Blazers coach Maurice Cheeks, but Cheeks was fired because he couldn't deal with the head cases in Portland. Chances are they won't hire him to work with the head cases here.

In addition, Cheeks is considered a players' coach. We don't want a players' coach. We want someone who will kick the players in the rear end.

Eric Musselman of Memphis is someone who falls into the kick-butt category. And even though he is running the show from the front office in Boston, we shouldn't discount McHale's old pal Danny Ainge. However, just thinking about Ainge whining about everything makes me all tense inside.

I'm not sure anyone can straighten out this group of troubled souls. Perhaps McHale should appoint Dr. Phil and Archbishop Harry Flynn co-coaches. At least the Wolves would feel better about themselves and their language would improve.</div>

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Don't be surprised if San Antonio Spurs assistant coach P.J. Carlesimo receives serious consideration for the Timberwolves' head coaching job.

Carlesimo is in his third season with the Spurs after being a head coach at Golden State and Portland in the NBA, and at Seton Hall.</div>

Agreed. I'm sticking with my opinion, Paul Silas would be our best choice.

The problem with Silas is I haven't even heard any articles or rumours of him being a candidate as the head coach. Nobody has mentioned his name yet. And I am sticking to my opinion that I don't want Paul here.

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">The owner declined to name names, but possible candidates mentioned for the Wolves' opening or elsewhere include: Eric Musselman, Paul Silas, John Lucas, Dave Cowens, and Doug Collins. Phil Jackson is considered a long shot, based on both his level of interest in the Wolves situation and his asking price of $10 million per season.

Assistant coaches whose teams still were active Thursday included Detroit's Gar Heard, Houston's Tom Thibodeau, Indiana's Mike Brown, Phoenix's Marc Iavaroni, San Antonio's P.J. Carlesimo, Seattle's Dwane Casey and Washington's Mike O'Koren. Also, Seattle head coach Nate McMillan's contract is up after the Sonics' postseason ends.

At least two of the Wolves' top three assistants -- Jerry Sichting, Randy Wittman, Sidney Lowe -- are believed to have applied for the top job. </div>

The Wolves have begun interviewing coaching prospects but have confidentiality agreements with most of them and won't comment. Cowens, 56, made his name as a tough-minded defensive specialist for the Boston Celtics and has coached the Charlotte Hornets and Golden State Warriors.

Cowens and Timberwolves vice president Kevin McHale, who also starred for the Celtics, are members of the Basketball Hall of Fame.</div>

Cross out Cowens from the list. I read another article reporting Doug Collins is not interested in any available jobs this year either.

PJ Carlesimo moving to the Head of the Wolves Coaching list?

<div align="center"><div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Dont expect any of the teams looking for coaches including the Wolves, to sign long-term contracts with new coaches until the NBA Labor problem is settled.

The Wolves are definitely not going to do anything, at least until the Spurs are eliminated. They want to interview San Antonio assistant coach PJ Carlesimo.</div></div>

Well we all know Sprewell more then likely isnt coming back. But the over interest in Carlesimo probably further nails that point in....I also think that probably means the Wolves will continue to shop my man Sam as well. The thing about PJ is that when ever you look at him as a serious coaching candidate, like it or not, you have to think back to the Sprewell incident. And even tho Spree was completely in the wrong, there was alot of rumbling around the league at the time that Carlesimo was very direspectful with Spree. And kind of pushed him over the edge that day. I dont think alot of veteran players have forgotten that situation and may not by into such a style from Carlesimo after that type of situation, so if the Wolves want him they may have to look to get younger quicker, so the style of coaching that Carlesimo used at Seton Hall can work at these level cause it hasnt for him so far in my opinion.

Dwane Casey finalist for Wolves coaching vacancy

<div align="center"><div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">"Sonics associate coach Dwane Casey is a finalist for the coaching vacancies in Minnesota and Portland after meeting with both teams last week in Chicago while attending the NBA predraft camp."</div></div>

    ----------

Seattles coaching staff with Nate McMillian and Casey etc were alot more defensive minded then the team displayed at times on the court. So If he does get the job it should be interesting to see how much defensively he can get of this group. I think that a decision to go in the direction of Casey instead of Carlismo would be much more fitting for the Timberwolves. He has been around the game for a decent amount of time. But yet still has fresh concepts to bring to the table. And doesnt come with Carlismo history/baggage.

I am glad Casey was a finalist and I am glad he got the job.

I am really glad that the Timberwolves gave him a serious look and I am glad the Wolves gave him a shot to be an NBA coach for the very first time.
