Rutgers freshman guard Mike Coburn of Mount Vernon was named Big East Rookie of the Week after averaging 20 points and four assists in wins over No. 18 Villanova and No. 13 Pittsburgh. Coburn poured in a career-high 23 points on 8-of-13 shooting in an 80-68 win over Villanova last Wednesday. Coburn added 17 points on 5-of-9 shooting in Saturday's win at Pitt. He is averaging 7.6 points and 2.6 rebounds on the season. Seton Hall freshman Jeremy Hazell received the same honor last week, meaning New Jersey schools captured Rookie of the Week honors in back-to-back weeks. Also this week, Seton Hall senior guard Brian Laing was named to the Big East Weekly Honor Roll after averaging 22.5 points and 10.5 rebounds in wins at Providence and over Cincinnati. Laing had 22 points and a career-high 13 boards in the win at Providence, the first Big East road win of the Bobby Gonzalez Era. He followed that up with a game-high 23 points and eight rebounds on Sunday's home win over the Bearcats. Laing played 40 minutes in both games. Joining Laing on the Weekly Honor Roll were Hasheem Thabeet of UConn, Roy Hibbert of Georgetown, Luke Harangody of Notre Dame and Anthony Mason, Jr. of St. John's.</div> Zagsblog
