College football betting players will be arguing about the polls long after the season is over, but so far this year, the top teams are taking a beating in the polls, and it seems as though no one wants the top spot.

It started in Week 6 with Alabama, when the defending national champions went to South Carolina and were soundly beaten 35-21 in Columbia by the Gamecocks. That gave the No.1 spot to Ohio State, and the Buckeyes promptly went to Wisconsin and fell 31-18 to the Badgers to throw the Big Ten into a whirlwind. Oklahoma debuted at No.1 in the first BCS standings in Week 8….then they lost 36-27 at Missouri on Saturday night, which was a bigger shock than watching Cain Velasquez pummel Brock Lesnar in a UFC betting matchup later that evening.

So who is up next? That would Oregon, who were No.1 in the AP poll and then put on a show in a 60-13 destruction of UCLA at home on Thursday night. But that still wasn’t enough to put the Ducks at the top of the BCS standings as Auburn jumped from fourth to first with a 24-17 win over LSU, powered by Heisman favorite Cam Newton. The Ducks are still atop the AP poll after the UCLA game and second to the Tigers, while Boise State is second in the AP poll (where Auburn is only fifth), but third in the BCS standings. Here is the schedule for the top five in the BCS this week:

    Auburn – at Ole Miss
    Oregon – at USC
Boise State – vs. Louisiana Tech
    TCU – at UNLV
Michigan State – at No.18 Iowa

If history tells us anything, four of the top five are in trouble, but the top two are the Northbet review teams to focus on. Boise State and TCU should have no problems, but Michigan State will be in tough at Iowa in what could be the most physical game of the week, which is typical of the Big Ten. The Tigers are facing an Ole Miss who is 1-3 in the SEC West, but the Rebels are also the only unranked team in the division (Auburn, Alabama, LSU, Mississippi State and Arkansas are all ranked), and not as bad as the record indicates. The Ducks are heading to USC, where they have dropped three of their last four. You also have to factor in that USC isn’t eligible for a bowl game because of violations, and this visit from the Ducks is the equivalent of a bowl game for them. If you manage to bet right on all five teams, you should get some sort of sports betting bonus. But it has been a strange, strange season in the NCAA so far in 2010, and many sports wagering sites will probably have to change their futures.
