The Colts 2006 Draft30th OverallJoesph Addai RB LSUI will have to admit that I was not a big fan of this guy. But the more tape i watch and the more i read about him I am starting to like him. Bill Polian said he was the best back for the colts Offense in the whole draft...(not bush?) in terms of his blocking and catching ability. He also adds speed ( sub 4.4) to a rushing attack that we really needed, but can still deliver a blow at 5'11 214.He fills the number 1 need for the colts and fits right into the system:grade: A62nd overallTim Jennigns, CB GeorgiaI was pretty pissed about this pick too. The Colts used their first 2 draft picks on corners last year (Marlin jacosk in the 1st and Kelvin Heydon in the 2nd) and only one saw the field. They are pretty solid at corner with Nick Harper (so underratted) Jason David and marlin jackson so I just didn't see the need. But again Jennnings brings something to the table......speed. Sub 4.3 speed can't be coached. the few clips i could find on him showed great closing speed, good hops for his height and nice hands. Still passing on Youboty, KO simpson and other DB's makes me wonder.Grade: C94th overallFreddie Keiaho, LB San Deigo StateIt seems like just yesterday I was rooting for the aztecs to beat IU in the tourny, lol. Anyways this pick blew my mind. I have no idea who this guy is at all. Terna Nande was still on the board and I couldn't believe we passed him up. Keiaho was a special teams ace till his senior year, then he was 1st team all mountain west at MLB. his stats looked decent, but I couldn't find a single clip on him. Bill Polian said he reminds him a ton of Mike Peterson coming out of college.?He?s a lot like Mike when he first came in ? aggressive, fast, a nose for the football,? Polian said. ?He?s a mix-it-up kind of player. He?s a three-down guy. He can be on the field for all three downs.?Again I don't see the need for a MLB........but bill sad he can transition to the outside. But why pass on Nande (4.5 speed, 41 reps on the bench, 36 inch vert, hit someone so hard he lacerated HIS OWN liver)grade: incomplete, but for the sake here i will go with a f. He was atleast a 2-3 round reach.162nd overallMichael Toudouze OG-OT, Texas Christian University.Helps the Line Depth immeaditly. He was a tackle in college, but with his size (6'6, 306) and limited athletic ability he will be better suited for guard. He is a straight line mauler who excells in run blocking. in this clip of him, he is shown blocking a DT and a DE at the same time on the goalline. pushing each a few yards back with only one arm. I think he will help on the goalline immeaditly. grade: B. fills a huge need on the goalline. 199th overallCharlie Johnson, OT Oklahoma StateA converted TE who has great athletic ability. He is very raw, only playing tackle for his senior year, but has a rare ability to play blindside tackle as a second day pick. He is a project, but has great upside. Howard Mudd is one of the best O-line coaches in the league and Bill Polian has a great track record picking O-Line men on the second day.........Ryan Deim, Rick Demulling, Jake Scott, Jeff Saturday (undrafted) Steve Scullio, Dylan Gandy etc...Grade: C. To get that position in the 2nd day is great. 207th OverallAntoine Bethea, DB HowardPerfect Colts player. He is fast (4.4) great ball skills (8 picks, 6 fumble recoveries) and hits hard (19 reps at the combine, 190 career tackles, 5 fumbles forced, 13 tackles for loss). He had a great combine, I remember watching the coverage on NFL Network and scratching my head many times because I had no idea who this kid form an all black school could dominate the way he did. He didn't play against top players in college, and is kind of a tweener between safety and corner. But he should come in and play great on special teams from day one and mature into a starter next to Bobby Sanders.Grade: AThe Colts draft was finished after this pick, and Bill Polian and Tony Dungy were talking to the presswhen Bill's phone rang. A player they gave the top grade in the 7th round keept falling. The Colts their 6th rounder next year for the titans pick in the 7th (the titans got this pick from the Colts in the rocky Calums trade before the season started)238th OverallTJ Rushing, CB, KR-PR Stanford. first lets see his combine numbers. 4.4 speed, 4.3 short shuttle, 7.1 3 cone drill, 40 inch vert, 20 reps in the bench. Great numbers. He was all Pac 10 kick returner, and had 2 picks as a corner. He is only a redshirt sophmore. Call me a homer all you want, but I really think he may be the steal of the draft..... He will step in right away and return kicks with addai, return punts and be a gunner on special teams. With Ron Meeks and tony dungy, 2 former DB's he should learn alot and has a chance of being a great corner if he can learn to trust his speed. His knock is he give too much a of a cushion in coverage. Grade: A. I know they gave up a 6th for a 7, but with all the comp picks the colts will get next year (Edge, tripplet, Thronton and maybe vanderdrunk) a 6th rounder will easly be gotten back.IMHO the Colts second day was one of the best in the league. The first day was pretty weak making some reaches, but in all it seems to be a good draft that fits the need of the colts. overall grade a B-

I think the C grade is a little more suitable. Addai is productive and fills a needed position after Edge left. I don't think he'll start over Rhodes, but might towards the middle of the season.

They don't really have a lot of needs right now, so even if they did have a "bad" draft (which I am far from qualified for grading anyone's draft), they could just be reaching for project players. I can't believe they passed on White. I'm glad they didn't get Maroney, he just seems like he'd be a perfect fit.

The only pick the Colts made who needs to step in from day 1 and contribute is Addai. And he is very capable to do that. The other 6 picks are all project players, who will grow on special teams or the practice squad.
