"Anthony Castonzo hasn't penciled in himself as the Indianapolis Colts starting left tackle. The Boston College standout figures it might take him a day or two. As expected, the Colts used the 22nd overall pick in the first round of Thursday night's NFL draft to address their declining offensive line, which had to bring a smile to the face of quarterback Peyton Manning. It certainly ignited a serious celebration in Hawthorn Woods, Ill., Castonzo's hometown where he, family and friends watched and waited for the draft to unfold. Why the seismic emotional outburst? "I get to block for the best quarterback in the league," Castonzo said. "That's more than you can really ask for. "This is unbelievable. I'm just at a loss for words." Perhaps, but Castonzo has high expectations. He isn't interested in being eased into the starting line rotation. "I don't know about the first day," he said. "I'm going to have to learn a lot, I'm sure. But I want to develop there and once I develop my skills I figure, yeah, I'd love to be starting this year." The 6-7, 311-pound Castonzo set a Boston College record with 54 consecutive starts, the final 42 at left tackle. He'll be given every opportunity to continue that streak at the next level. The Colts' plan is to immediately plug him in at left tackle and require him to handle arguably the franchise's most important task: protect Manning's blind side. "I'm sure he can step in and do a good job pretty darned soon," vice chairman Bill Polian said after taking an offensive lineman in the first round for just the fourth time in his 25 drafts, the first since Blake Brockermeyer with the Carolina Panthers in 1995."
