Tho' I've found no clear cut criteria for "Comeback Player of The Year", other than these: from Baseball Almanac (verbatim on Wiki), and the Paragraph in Blue Font below, which is The Sporting News Criteria, (originator of the CBPOTY Award, which began in 1965)...... The Major League Baseball Comeback Player of the Year Award is presented by MLB; to the player who is judged to have "re-emerged on the baseball field during a given season." The award was developed in 2005, as part of a sponsorship agreement between MLB and Viagra*** (REF: ***[1] noted below). In 2005 and 2006 representatives from MLB and MLB.com, selected six candidates each from the (AL) and (NL) and one winner for each league was selected via an online Poll, on MLB.com. Since then, the winners have been selected by a panel of MLB Reporters. Past winners have often overcome injury or personal problems en route to their award-winning season. TSN's Criteria via their website: The Sporting News (TSN); Comeback Player of the Year Award is the oldest of three annual awards in MLB, given to one Player in each in both Leagues; who has reemerged as a star in that season. It was established in 1965. The winner in each league is selected by the TSN editorial staff. *** That being said, the 1st thing to hit me, was WTF- Sponsored by MLB AND VIAGRA. A true PED if there ever was one.........and 2nd the true lack of Criteria for choosing a winner, by either or MLB/TSN.....
That being said, I'd say: Either Tex or Fielder wins the AL, thus far. And no I really doubt #13 will win it, given the nature of his absenteeism from his suspension.... In the NL, I don't see anyone who can knock Matt Harvey off of his Horse.......... input......???
That would be interesting to say the least.... After all, the simple statement for criteria: "have often overcome injury or personal problems....." In this case, either or overcome Injury Or Personal Probs. Alex has overcome both.....but maybe not with those who get to Vote....~! If Fielder fails here forth, we should see just that, Tex vs A-Roid.....! As of 8/7: Player Gms Runs Hits RBI HR Avg. OPS Fielder 106 53 133 63 16 .324 .885 Tex 101 55 96 77 30 .268 .953 A-Roid 101 64 100 63 24 .279 .919 As said 1K times, "its a damn shame, so many mega talented Ball Players, got caught up in the Juice era, when they never needed 'em to begin with"......same was said of the Cocaine era players, Howe, Doc K, Strawberry, Vida Blue, Willie Aiken, Keith Hernandez, Dave Parker, Lonnie Smith, and others named, Dusty Baker, Tim Raines, lets just call it what it was: The 1985 Pittsburg Drug Trials..... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pittsburgh_drug_trials
