So we know that center is a priority this summer. Let's look at some possible names that could be available and compare their numbers. If you can think of anyone else, let me know and I'll update it.

    JaVale McGee -
    http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/m/mcgeeja01.html
    Pro:
25 years old (still pretty young)
    Considered a defensive center
    20.8 PER
    Con:
    Being paid $10 million per
    Lower BBIQ
    Not great numbers

    DeAndre Jordan
    http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/j/jordade01.html
    Pro:
24 years old (younger than McGee)
    Slightly better numbers than McGee
    Cons:
Being paid $10.5 million per (higher than McGee)
    Lower PER than McGee (17.2)
    Not great numbers

    Nikola Pekovic
    http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/p/pekovni01.html
    Pros:
Still fairly young (27 years old)
Best stats of the bunch (16.3 ppg and 8.8 boards)
    Good advanced stats (20.2 PER)
    Cons:
    Due for a big payday
    Not a good defensive center
Restricted so a risk to sign

    Omer Asik
    http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/a/asikom01.html
    Pros:
    Still young (26 years old)
Not being paid a ridiculous contract ($8.3 million this year)
    Solid defender
    Cons:
Only available if Houston gets Howard

    Marcin Gortat
    http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/g/gortama01.html
    Pros:
    Supposedly very available
    Experienced player
    Very reasonable contract
    Cons:
Oldest of all the players (29)
    Middle of the road stats

    Per game comparison

    Advanced stats comparison

I pass on Jordan and Pekovic. I'm interested in the other three.

Odd. I was going to say give me DeAndre or Pekovic based on that. They both have the highest win share, and Gortat has the lowest win share. According to those stats, DeAndre is the 2nd best offensively and the best defensively.

In another thread I came to the conclusion that Pekovic was our best option, so I will pick him.

If I was to vote on that list, I would pick Gortat or Asik (I don't think he will be available). Gortat has both the defense and offense we need. He is the best option, IMO.

You forgot Jefferson, Dalembert and that guy that just announced he is gay.

Guess it depends on available, I think others mayb could come available, like Asik, under just right circumstances.
I think there's the potential for Horford to come available, if Atlanta looked to make a big splash this offseason. I think maybe they can get better offers than what we send, but if they cleared his salary, they'd have the potential of going after Paul and Dwight and Josh Smith, surrounded by ring chaser minimums. Unlikely, for sure, but a small possibility.

Isn't Gortat's Win Share down because he was hurt for half the season though?

Edit: I guess his WS per 48 isn't all that hot either. Not sure how they calculate that though. I do know PHX was the worst team of the bunch.

And Nash wasn't there to take full advantage of his awesome picks!

Why no Bynum on the list? He's available and he's way better than all those guys. Are we really ever going to win a championship with Gortat?

    Yuck.

I'm almost ready to take a chance on Cousins.

I guess I like Asik the best for our needs, but his FT% isn't great and he's not going to be available.

    Pekovic I guess.

I think he's actually not a bad idea lately. Also, Since he stays in SacTown, i think the fans are more willing to accept him leaving too.

I don't think we would have the best deal to throw at them for Cousins. What could we offer? Batum, Meyers?

According to the numbers, Gortat has the second "worst" D and the worst "O". I really think Gortat is a little overrated from playing with Nash. Gortat is probably who I want the least. I realize the numbers don't say it all, but he is 29 and I am aware he probably isn't the worst offensively, and he has solid assist numbers, he just doesn't do much for me. I'd rather risk a little on potential game changing ability (DeAndre's defense, Javales defense, Omers rebounding, Pekovic scoring and rebounding)

I'm not interested in Batum and 10 for Cousins, personally.

Yeah it seems a little steep, but Cousins (of potential and actual ability) is arguably one of the best young centers in the league. His mentality doesn't effect his production, but more of the production of others. Although, I suspect that one day he will grow up, just as Zach eventually did now. If Cousins actually got his head on straight, he could be one of the best. that's definitely a big "IF".

Batum is valuable, but I think we have that playmaker. We can also grab another playmaker with our available cap space "insert Igs".

Having this starting core isn't something to sneeze at.

    PG: Lillard
    SG: Matthews
    SF: Iggy
    PF: Aldridge
    Center: Cousins

We would still have Leonard as a Hedge too

At that point, I think its too big of a risk

Taking an awful contract, not knowing which DMC we will be getting, giving up a decent lottery pick and Batum. That's giving up a lot for a risky player in DMC.

I was thinking Batum, Meyers, and maybe a future pick for DMC and some cash. Throw in second round picks I guess, but no way I'd give up #10 as well. way too much risk involved.

Unless it was Batum and 10 for DMC, no Salmons. I'd still struggle though, as I think the 10th pick this year could be a pretty solid SF in Shabazz or Giannis.
