<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Quote:Smush Parker was the talk of the town a year ago, an apparent find after averaging 17.8 points in the team's first four games. He's off to a more frayed start this season, averaging 8.1 points and shooting 36.4% through seven games. What gives? "I have no idea," Lakers Coach Phil Jackson said. "One of my coaches was saying that last year at this time, Smush had 10 dunks, eight steals, no turnovers through so many games. He's just not in the rhythm of the game right now. "We just have to stay solid for a little bit and see how it plays out. It's too early to pull the plug on anything." Parker, who had been with three teams in two NBA seasons before signing with the Lakers, had been used to playing during off-seasons, marketing his game to any and all teams as a free agent. "Last year, I played summer league. I was playing ball all summer," he said. "This summer, I didn't play any ball. I couldn't find anywhere to play. I was here half the summer by myself, working out, just doing individual work, so I didn't get a chance to run."</div> I don't get his last statement. He sucks in the Playoffs vs. the Suns and he thinks he deserves time off from practice or something? Didn't the signing of 2 guards in the off-season and drafting another by the Lakers scare the him or maybe even motivate him? I mean it isn't like Smush is a bonafide talent in the NBA.

He obviously needed that time on the court with a team to prepare for this season instead of just practicing in the gym by himself
I'm sure Smush did play some ball during the summer, it's ridiculous for an NBA starter just working out... I just don't see it.Anyways even if what he said was true, I think he might 1) be in a slump or 2) not really be as good as he seemed to be. Right now I am questioning his ability to start, he's not really doing his job to the best he could.
I think the reason he wasn't known that much until next year is the same reason he isn't doing as well this year. he is a one hit wonder. he has a good season and doesn't think he needs to try as hard. eventually he'll either be traded or threatned to be traded and he'll pick it up for a few months. at least that is my perception of him.
