Alright, let me preface this by saying I'm legally computer illiterate.

So anyway, I've been downloading a lot of stuff lately from movies from 'certain' (wink, wink) websites, music from Limewire, and I think my friends/brother/sister have all downloaded things here and there. So I don't know how I got this virus, but I think I do...

Basically, it's slowing everything down... that's the only effect right now. I got a popup message from Norton saying that I have a Trojan Galloper or something like that, and that it's unfixable by them...

Anyone think they can give me help?

I want to try to fix this on my own, because I've got **** on here that I don't want people at shops to see...

Same thing happened to me. My computer would not only slow down, but freeze during random occassions. I've heard you can just save the things you feel are important and just re-install Windows. Unfortunately, this didn't work for me, but it did for my brother and some of his friends. Maybe you should talk to to Mel or 44.

    So... you still have it?

Also, I just shelled out like $500 bucks for an X-Box 360 w/X-Box Live. Will it affect my online play?

It was with all the other stuff that came with the computer. You gotta keep all that stuff for back up.

I don't think it should affect your online play, but I'm just as good on the computer as you.

^ those wont work for me. even if i download a "virus stopper" or whatever, it just gets rid of the virus but slows down my computer. bottom line, my computer cant handle downloading anything. also, sometimes, my computer just freezes up for no reason and it says program is not responding. then i have to click a million end nows to close down the program

Ad-aware one works, everytime you visit a site, you start to collect adware no matter where you go. Adware slows down your computer massively when you start to collect it. You need to get rid of it if you want to speed up your comp. Next AVG got rid of 3 viruses that I gotten, it works [IMG]

Ewido is the best I've used. Download it free here and run the full scan. Quarentine everything it finds that has a red or amber light. Then, download Hijackthis from here and scan the computer. Make sure you save this in the C: folder. Copy and paste the log into this www.hijackthis.de. Whatever comes up as "red" should be checked and fixed on the hijackthis program.

I'm not a nerd on the computers, so do this at your own risk. I've had so many problems before, and this generally seems to work.

If you still have problems, sign up to this forum and post the details there. They will definatly help you out and there success rate of solving these problems within days is high.

My advice is to follow the last paragraph. Believe me, they will help you fix the problem quickly.

Hijackthis program find a lot of stuff. It cleared a lot of things on my computer, but I never had a big virus only adware, etc. And I posted my log at some forum like that and they helped me.

Alright, thx for the input. Basically, this is a new computer, brand new... so I don't want to **** it up too badly... I had heard downloading **** like that can only aggrivate the problem. How much truth is there to that?
