He has pitched 4.2 inning since Sunday and has thrown 69 pitches. This is a formula for disaster. However, I don't believe Joe has any other choice.
Not really, he'll get rest and this is just another aspect of his greatness- the ability to stay healthy, and a reason why I question if Robertson is really up to the task, a veteran reliever throwing an average amount of innings and getting tendinitis in his shoulder is not a good sign IMO, they should most certainly have a backup closer in place for 2014.
Yankees have basically no back ups of any kind in place. They will be lucky to have starters. Look at the slop they had to throw out there because of lack of farm options. I doubt there will be a back up plan for closer if there has been no legit for catcher, starter, 3B, SS etc. The fact that this team is anywhere near a WC spot is amazing. Credit to the players and coaches. If Cashman takes any credit for this i think i will puke. Basically everything he did was crap, and they are pushing through despite his incompetence.
They're lucky that Tampa went through an absolute collapse the last month and a half. That's the only reason they have a chance here. I mean this team goes 1-5 against SD and Chi, lose a critical series to Tampa and goes into another 1-5 funk yet they still are in the mix. It's absolutely ridiculous. That being said yes they have fought and haven't given up so you do like to see that. If you're going to credit a manager for anything you do have to give Girardi some praise for holding things together in the clubhouse.
