With LSU taking Va Tech to the woodshed, please convince me that LSU shouldn't be #1 when the new polls come out
Just watch next week against Nebraska. USC will show you why LSU still shouldnt be #1. USC has one of the best defenses in the nation and dont sleep on their offense. Losing Steve Smith and Jarrett wont hurt their offense at all.
Even if they destroy Nebraska, doesn't mean USC is #1. Nebraska is not that good.
LSU should be #1 and they'll probably prove it going through the SEC.

Becouse they havnt beatin App State?
I swear all I gotta do is say App State to a Michigan fan now its freakin great.

I love LSU, but USC is also a great team and they will prove it vs. Nebraska and any othet team they face. I don't think LSU deserves to be #1 until USC proves that they are not deserving themselves. The Pac-10 also deserves more respect. The conference is strong this year.

I'd love to see these teams face off in the championship game. Besides being a great match-up, I don't want to see the Sooners in there.

QUOTE (ghoti)

Nobody should be #1 until after at least week three.
Yeah, I wish they wouldn't do polls till week 4. Gives everyone a month to seehowgood teams are. But they probably don't wanna change it because it gets people talking month before.

I honestly doubt that. Their offense didn't look too great and their defense gave up a lot of yards to Idaho.

QUOTE (Dissonance19)

I honestly doubt that. Those USC players were just out there running around, even the announcers commented that USC did even look like they were into the game. I love USC's defense and I think the offense is going to explode when they decide to put McKnight on the filed as much as they can, even in the slot or at H-back.

As of now, LSU is the best team in the country and Oklahoma is #2, IMO. They have proven more right now then USC has. You talk about USC's defense? Check out what LSU has done. LSU has given up less points against 2 BCS conference teams(Miss State and VT) then USC gave up against Idaho(they are 1-AA if I'm not mistaken). I'm not saying USC's D is bad or anything, they are the most talented team in the nation, but if you are looking at the rankings based on what you have done so far this season, then you HAVE to put LSU #1 and Oklahoma #2. I completly agree about the polls too. You shouldn't do a poll until at least the first conference game and not based on preseason hype. Preseason hype is the main reason why USC is still ahead of LSU at this stage.
To the person who said that USC should be #1 until it's proven that they are undeserving of the spot, shouldn't that go for the Gators instead? Gators won the national championship and haven't lost since then, so by your logic shouldn't the Gators be #1 until they lose? USC beatdown a now proven overrated team in the Rose Bowl last year I don't really see how they should be #1 based along the premise that they should be #1 until they lose. If another team looks better than them, then that team should be #1, just my opinion. I do expect USC to throttle Nebraska this weekend by at least 30 points.
The Pac 10 is really really good at the top this season. I'm still not sold that it's better than the SEC overall though, but you can easily debate either way. There is absolutely no question though that they are a top 2 conference in the nation right now.

Ive been out of town and I feel bad for missing out on this thread...
LSU's D is better than USC's D...and you know why? Because LSU actually needs their D while playing in the SEC. USC actually has a much better schedule than they did in years past but still.

The Pac-10 is easily the 2nd best conference behind the SEC and they have 6 teams in the top 31. I think LSU's defense is probably better than USC's, but even then I would put USC at #2.

USC plays: @Nebraska @Washington @Oregon @ASU @Cal
That is 5 probable top 25 teams on the road. They also play Notre Dame in South Bend. Who else do you want them to play and where?

Well I conceded that USC has the schedule this year. But the Pac Ten is extremely soft at the bottom. Mississippi State and Ole Miss are the doormats in the SEC and I bet they would take the bottom of the Pac 10. USC really isnt like the rest of the Pac 10 though...they are legit.

After that you have Washington St who has a very good offense and Arizona who has a good defense and should make a bowl game this year. I think dont think MSU and Ole Miss would beat Arizona or WSU. Oregon St would be a good game and they both would roll Stanford.
The Pac-10's top six are right up there with the SEC's. The SEC has more depth in the conference, but they also have more teams. Like I said the Pac-10 is clearly the second best conference behind the SEC.

USC tearing apart a pretty good, ranked Nebraska team is why they are still #1 and if they go through that tough schedule of there's with the same record as LSU, they will deserve to be #1, or ahead of them even though I love LSU and SEC football.

QUOTE (TucsonClip)

QUOTE (Geaux Tigers)

Ive been out of town and I feel bad for missing out on this thread...
LSU's D is better than USC's D...and you know why? The Pac is very strong this year, easily #2. There is so much talent outside of USC...it would be worth it for some of the easties to stay up and take a look.
