    Hello darkness, my old friend
So Kansas again got to be America's test case, after former governor Sam Brownback's (horribly failed) attempt to use Kansas to prove that trickle-down economics works.

In this case, current governor Laura Kelly issued a mask mandate for the state. But many counties chose not to abide by it. So what happened? 15 counties opted in, the rest (90 of them) opted out. Let's see how that worked out:

A Kansas health official says counties with mask mandates reduced coronavirus case numbers, while case numbers remained steady in areas that don’t require face coverings.

While new confirmed coronavirus cases across Kansas have trended downward, Dr. Lee Norman, the secretary of the Kansas Department of Health and Environment, said Wednesday that COVID-19 case reductions could be attributed to the 15 counties that require masks. Those include Wyandotte, Johnson, Sedgwick and Shawnee.

Those counties, Norman said, represent about two-thirds of the state’s population and tend to have denser urban populations and a greater proportion of people from underrepresented backgrounds who are more likely to contract the virus and face complications.

Even though Gov. Laura Kelly announced a mask mandate in public buildings as case numbers across the state soared in early July, about 80% of the state’s 105 counties refused to comply with the executive order, mainly opting for mask recommendations instead. In total, 90 counties did not institute a mask mandate, Norman said.

“Some counties have been the control group with no mask and some counties have been the experimental group where masks are worn,” Norman said, “and the experimental group is winning the battle. All of the improvement in the case development comes from those counties wearing masks.”

Why are there over a 100 counties in Kansas? How many does Oregon have? I feel like it’s 25ish

Using Trump logic, that curve will drop even further when they reopen schools for all to attend, at the same time, on the same day, in the same places. Co-mingling is good for their health and good for ours.

I believe Oregon, which is much bigger than Kansas, has 37 counties, the smallest being Multnomah.

Yes. Just as people with non-COVID diseases dying at greater rates count as COVID deaths. That's kind of the point of a pandemic--it's not just the people who die from the disease itself, it's also all the other negative things that happen due to the unfortunate choices the pandemic creates.

Sorry, I realize you were trying to be snide and ironic, so that effort wasn't wasted, but it actually led to an important point also.

That's not clear. Obviously, that guy shouldn't have been, but some prisoners probably should have been to prevent a massive outbreak in jails.

Of course, the root of this problem isn't the pandemic, but our issue with over-jailing. Violent criminals need to be put in prison, but we jail so many non-violent offenders that we have constantly overfilled jails. That causes a lot of problems, for no good reason, and a pandemic is just the latest.

    Build bigger jails.

Isolate covid patients immediately and regular screenings.

They are in jail, the population shpuld be manageable, but unfortunately like all things, they suck at what they do.

Accused Rapists shouldn't be released. Total flunk of the system here and now the girl who allegedly got raped is dead.

Nah, they should just have fewer people in them. Focused on non-violent offenders, though.

Dr. Anthony Fauci says chance of coronavirus vaccine being highly effective is 'not great'

    • White House coronavirus advisor Dr. Anthony Fauci that the chances of scientists creating a highly effective vaccine — one that provides 98% or more guaranteed protection — for the virus are slim.
    • Scientists are hoping for a coronavirus vaccine that is at least 75% effective, but 50% or 60% effective would be acceptable, too, he said.
    • The FDA has said it would authorize a coronavirus vaccine so long as it is safe and at least 50% effective.

Im sorry, but this should never happen! Why in hell let a rapist out on the street because they fear he may get covid 19.
This is happening way to much by opening up floodgates to hardened criminals. I swear, the politicians involved in releasing these guys I hope are cursed and cant sleep at night.
Shouldn't have happened and dont tell me its just an occasional small number.
