Initially was thought that Valanciunas would wait till next year. Could the Blazers make a similar move and get Freeland or is there a large difference in buyout between this and next year.

If we get Freeland we could have much more flexibility in our decision to amnesty Roy... aka we can keep him as Freeland would take the role of Landry/Hayes

Or Amnesty Roy and sign someone like Crawford, Nene ect. Meh

I think Freeland's buyout is after this season.

    But it'd be great.

I could be wrong, but off the top of my head, the buyout right now would be 2 million, but after this season it would be zero. Not sure where I remember reading this, so I could be wrong.

I don't see it: the only reason it's being suggested for Valanciunas is because his Lithuanian team is in dire financial straits and just lost a major sponsor. Unicaja is one of the richer Spanish teams, though, and was rumored to be in the running for Splitter before he went to Valencia. Plus Unicaja turned down a big money offer for Freeland from Barcelona this off-season.
(It does happen that Euro-players switch teams mid season. For example, Kyle Singler just got bought by Real Madrid from Alicante (which is a smaller Spanish team than Unicaja) and of course Krstic got acquired by the Thunder that one time.)

Well, we do need a backup PF, and we are here to talk.... :)

Thinking he'll be more than a decent backup seems pretty optimistic though, as I think you are pointing out.

Is he younger and healthier than Camby? Does he have a higher ceiling than Barron or Johnson?

    There's your answer.
