If the Mavericks lose their first round series to the Hornets, as it appears they might, Mark Cuban might consider firing Head Coach Avery Johnson, according to the Dallas Morning News.

Johnson wore his NBA Title ring, as did some of his coaching staff, to Game Two in an attempt to fire up some of his players.

"It's just a form of camaraderie and, hopefully, a sense of motivation," Avery said. "But, I guess it didn't motivate tonight."

Dallas has always had the talent, and now they have the point guard in Jason Kidd. However, the Mavericks have continued to struggle when it counts. Hence, the 0-2 hole against New Orleans.</div>

    Seems like a good idea.

I wonder if Mark Cuban learned anything from the Scott Skiles being fired to make for a "better team" situation. Sometimes it's the coach, but for the Mavericks, I think it's the players. They've made the playoffs every year under Avery, thus we know that Avery has motivation skills. Avery is really strict and critiquing, but that's what the Mavericks need.

The problem isn't Avery. It's Kidd. He's getting burned by Chris Paul, and even if we somehow make it past NO, he will continue to get burned by younger, faster point guards like Tony Parker, Deron Williams, even Nash.

I've seen people criticize Avery and call for his firing before. Is it simply on the basis of an underachieving/overwhelmed team? Or are their legitimate reasons for his firing and is he not simply a scapegoat? I haven't had the chance to watch him coach often, so I'm legitimately curious.

Avery seems to be too much of a control freak. He says he's giving Kidd freedom on offense, but I kinda doubt it.

So, it was becouse of Kidd that Dallas lost last year?

They need to get rid of Dirk, He is soft and will never lead his team to a championship.

Dirk took them to the finals a few years ago, and if it wasn't for D-Wade getting all those shadow-fouls, they would've won a ring.

It wasn't because of Kidd that Dallas lost last year, but it also wasn't Dirk's fault. Don Nelson knew the tendencies of all the major players on that team, and knew how to get Dirk & Co. into an uncomfortable position.

The reason they are losing now is because Kidd cannot guard faster, younger guards. Kidd from the Net's finals run would be different.
