<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Boston Herald - If the Celtics don’t turn their dismal season around, Paul Pierce can picture himself in another uniform before the Feb. 23 trade deadline.

And he wouldn’t mind winding up with a contender.

“It’s something I’d give a lot of thought to,” Pierce said before scoring 32 points in last night’s 104-102 Celtics’ loss to the Mavericks at TD Banknorth Garden.

Statistically, Pierce is having his best season.

“But I’d rather have a season like this when we’re winning,” he said.

“A career is defined by winning games and championships.”

Pierce, 28, and in his eighth season, said he feels he’s running out of time. “I’m not getting any younger,” Pierce said. “(A trade) is something I’d give a lot of thought to.”

Pierce said he might lobby for a trade himself or it could be instigated by Celtics executive director of basketball operations Danny Ainge.

Pierce entered last night’s game averaging 26.3 points, 7.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists. He’s shooting just under 50 percent.

Some teams would consider Pierce just what they needed in order to make a deep playoff run.</div>

Rumors are flowing around Pierce and these comments aren't exactly helping his case. Francis for Pierce was a big rumor this summer and I wouldn't be suprised if someone brings it back up soon. With Jameer playing great all around basketball and Keyon back from injury, Francis' isn't needing nearly as much as someone like Paul Pierce would be. I have a feeling we could see a Francis and Battie/Cato for Pierce deal before the trade deadline next month.

If he wants to play for a contender, why would he come to Orlando?

Well it's really up to the Celtics where he goes. The fact that he is making these comments may spark a trade from the Celtics and at that point, the C's would be looking at that talent they are receiving in the deal rather then trying to send Pierce to a team he likes.

I guess Pierce was misquoted and he doesn't really want out of Boston. He was just saying he would accept a trade is he was approached by the C's and that he would never request a trade.

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Boston Herald - Celtics captain Paul Pierce says the report made yesterday that he would be open to a trade to a different team was not the whole story. Steve Bulpett of the Boston Herald gave Pierce a chance to say the whole story.

Pierce says ?I said everything in there, but not everything I said got put in, I also said I wanted to stay with the Celtics my whole career. I was asked if I would be open to a trade if the Celtics approach me. I just said as a businessman you have to. I have no choice if they come to me. But I?m not going to them."

Paul Pierce went on to say, ?If I?m approached with it, of course I?m going to be open. I mean, it?s a business. If the Celtics come to me. . . . but it?s not a situation where I?m going to go to the Celtics. I love being here. I?ve been here my whole career, and I told y?all before, if I could stay with one team my entire career that?s what I would want to do.?

Pierce says he had to remain realistic, with the Celtics losing seven of their last nine games. ?What you?ve got to understand is I?m frustrated with losing just like everybody else. But I came into this season with the mindset that maybe we might be a young, growing team with our inconsistencies. I didn?t expect us to be at this record, but I expected the inconsistencies from a young and growing team. We have a lot of young and new players that are still trying to find their niche in the league.?

Celtics coach Doc Rivers had this to say, "?I think Paul wants to be a Celtic, I think he wants to stay here."

Paul Pierce and the green are coming off a win against Atlanta last night 98-94. The Celtics next play January 13th against Philadelphia.</div>
