<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Broncos DE Brown to miss preseasonAssociated PressDENVER -- The Broncos will be without Courtney Brown for the entire exhibition season after the defensive end underwent arthroscopic surgery on his troublesome left knee.Recovery is expected to take three to four weeks. Coach Mike Shanahan said Thursday he expects Brown to be back in the lineup for the Broncos' Sept. 10 regular season opener at St. Louis."We have four weeks, and I feel pretty good that he should be able to come back if there are no setbacks," Shanahan said. "We will keep our fingers crossed."Brown, who underwent his latest operation Wednesday, has a history of knee problems. He had surgery on his right knee in 2001 and on his left knee in '02 and '04. He missed 33 games in his final four seasons in Cleveland. He dislocated his left elbow during training camp with the Broncos last summer and sat out the regular season opener against Miami. He finished with 38 tackles and two sacks in 14 games. The Broncos are counting on putting more pressure on quarterbacks in 2006 without having to resort to heavy blitz packages and Brown is a big part of that plan. However, Shanahan said he didn't think the layoff would be a detriment."Courtney has been here through all the [offseason training]days, and it is not like he missed camp. He had three weeks of good repetition," Shanahan said. "Obviously, with his experience, it makes us feel pretty good. [But] I do want him to get back into football shape."The Broncos open their exhibition schedule Friday at Detroit, where Javon Walker tore up his knee last year in Green Bay's season opener. Walker, who has shown flashes of his pre-injury self at Broncos camp, is among the players who will be held out of the preseason opener.Copyright 2006 by Associated Press</div>http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2545713
