S&T to the Celtics. I guess the deal helped Houston free up enough Cap Space to make the Asik offer for real. Or it's one of a few steps on that path.
The Cubs are looking good these days, aren't they? It's amazing how one guy seems to have made such an effect! *whimper*
I watched those games on TV in '69 and it broke my heart. I used to hang out after the games by the Cubs' players parking lot and get autographs. I knew where the visitors came out, too, to get on their bus to the hotel and got their autographs, too. I think I attended half the Cubs home games for 3 straight seasons. You could hear the organ music from our class rooms right as school let out. If you got to the ballpark after 7th inning, they'd let you in for free if the game wasn't in doubt. I used to push up seats (a whole row, the whole stadium) in exchange for free tickets. I spent most of the games in the right field bleachers. Billy Williams, Rick Monday, Bobby Murcer, and a few other left handed sluggers. I probably came up with a few dozen balls during pre-game practice (players throw balls into the stands) and in games.
Celtics lost Allan, but have done well in adding Terry and now Lee. I believe they have now passed us.
True, the whole thing started when I realized this coming season was lost for the Bulls, and -- thinking of lost seasons -- the Cubs came to mind. They've had the best record in the majors over the last 19 games. Take that, Cardinals fan!
