"The message from coach Dave Tippett to the 28 players remaining in training camp is this: Pick up the intensity because there are guys who want your jobs.

The Coyotes play exhibition games Tuesday in Calgary and Wednesday in Edmonton. Final roster spots will be determined on performances in those games before the team embarks on a European trip that includes an exhibition in Riga, Latvia, and two regular-season games in Prague against Boston.

With that type of tight schedule, Tippett did not get the kind of practice he wanted Monday.

"It's a different phase of the camp here right now," he said. " . . . I didn't see the intensity we needed there. I realize there's a lot of players on the ice, but we have to recognize we have two games before we go to Europe."
