<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">DALLAS - It may be Mark Cuban?s unhappy task to explain why he didn?t re-sign Steve Nash last summer, a time when Nash fully expected ? and wanted? to remain with the Mavericks.

Here?s the owner?s explanation after Nash destroyed his team in a thrilling playoff series:
"People want to go, ?Steve this, Steve that.?

"But the reality is, it?s a team. We win as a team and we lose as a team.

"We had six years to try it the other way.

"A lot of you guys weren?t even picking us to make the playoffs. And here we go out and win 58 games. I would do it all again in a heartbeat because we?ve set a foundation for this team.

"The one thing I?ve learned in my five years is that as much as people think they know going forward, they don?t.

"The Suns had no idea they were going to be this good. Nobody else had any idea. That?s just the nature of the beast, so what you do is learn what you?ve got and hope for the best."

Nash made year 1 of his 6-year Phoenix contract look like a huge mistake by Cuban. Now, he has just 5 more seasons to prove Cuban wrong.

Actually, Cuban offered a 4-year deal to Nash, so technically, to prove Cuban wrong about his decision, Nash has to be playing at this level in years 5 & 6. The casual basketball fan will only see it myopically in terms of what happens this year, but a fan that can see the big picture will understand that to accurately judge this decision it will take more than this year.

Kudos to Nash on a great season. He has definitely made Mavs fans regret his departure, atleast for this year.
