Supposedly the cubs have hired Lou Piniella as their new manager. Lou Piniella is the guy who managed the devil rays for the past 5 years.StoryI think Lou is a good manager and will help the cubs become a better team. What do yall think of the recent hiring.
I don't know if Pinella can help the Cubs. But, I guess with that kind of roster, you can't get much worse.
I think this is a start. He is the exact opposite from Dusty Baker because he will get right in your face. I also hear they may try to pursue A-Rod since he has a good relationship with piniella but I doubt it will happen. Anyways, they wont turn around their season with just Lou piniella. They need to start making some moves, either start young or get some good veteran players.Btw, am I the only cubs fan on this site? or is anyone on this board from chicago who likes baseball??
I think he'll help, but he won't be able to stop Kerry Wood and Mark Prior's injury problems. The team is just ridiculously pathetic every year it seems. If there is such a thing as cursed, they are definitely cursed.
They have a good pitching staff minus the injuries. Although Juan Pierre, Derrek Lee, Jacque Jones, Aramis Ramirez, and Cesar Izturis make up a solid core, they won't win you many ball games with Wood and Prior not suiting up. Carlos Zambrano is a great ace, let me say that.

He has some talent to work with. Derrek Lee can be and IMO will be an MVP candidate next season. The pitching staff is one of the best in the league when healthy, and the team has some good young players. The Cubs also told Piniella that they will pursue big name free agents this year.
As someone who follows the cubs closely, I've been hearingSoriano and/or Rodriguez at the top of the want list and they are willing to trade players (except lee and zambran0).then again, im not secret inside cubs agent.
