"In a scheduling oddity, the Cubs are currently in a stretch in which they play 16 consecutive games against five teams that rank in the bottom five of National League pitching.

The Pirates rank dead last on that list, and the Cubs came into PNC Park on a warm Tuesday night licking their chops at the prospect of teeing off.

But they wound up losing 3-2, stranding 12 base-runners, as they fell below .500 again at 13-14.

Manager Lou Piniella threatened a shakeup of the lineup, saying he may move Aramis Ramirez down in the lineup to the sixth spot and move Alfonso Soriano up.

"We'll see what happens with that," he said. "Look, we do need Ramirez to hit. There's no question."

Ramirez's average dropped to .149 after he went 0-for-4 and left four men on base, including the tying run in the ninth to end it."
