I for one was disappointed about losing Hedo, but I am not convinced the Blazers are going to do anything else. So what does that mean for this coming season? My question is what are the current Blazer players doing about this? I wonder if they read the papers, follow the internet articles, etc. and say to themselves...who cares if we stand pat...I am going to work my butt off and make this current team better next year. I know I want to see KP make a trade or pick up a FA, but what do the players want/think?
I think the players are either going to work hard or not, whether the team brought in Hedo or they bring in another FA or they don't bring in anyone. I can't imagine that someone who lacks motivation to work hard in the offseason will suddenly work harder because of the team's free agency activity. Ed O.
I think Roy wants talent. Period. That guy wants a ring and will ruthlessly train and compete until he gets one or die trying and come up short. The rest of the guys probably don't want to see a trade except maybe one of Outlaw/Blake (the goats for the HOU series) so they can get more minutes (Rudy, Bayless). However, the main thing they are wondering is, are they going to bring in a guy who will start ahead of me? Or make room for me to develop?
I'd hope that the players use it as a little motivation boost to prove that they are good enough to make a strong playoff run next year. Or guys like Travis and Martell can see it as a slight that the team tried to bring someone in to take their spot and role on the team. I don't see that happening, however. If we do go in with the same team, I really hope we continue our progression and show that we've become an even better team than last season. It could get ugly if the team regresses, but I don't expect that to happen.
They've had a taste of the playoffs and are working har to get back and go further. We may have a few holes to plug, but this is still a very good team that is growing and maturing together.
I think a big factor will be Webster - can he fully heal? If he does, than I think this team gets better.
