AP NEW YORK (AP) -- New York Knicks center Eddy Curry first experienced chest pains during training camp last year while he was a member of the Chicago Bulls, according to a published report. The previously unreported health scare occurred last October, five months before the 22-year-old Curry was diagnosed with an irregular heartbeat, Bulls general manager John Paxson told SI.com in a report posted on the Web site Thursday. ``It was during a conditioning drill, and Eddy complained of chest pain and lightheadedness,'' Paxson told SI.com. ``We took him to the hospital.'' Paxson said that an exam provided no explanation for Curry's symptoms. The 6-foot-11, 285-pound Curry ended up having his best season in the NBA, averaging a career-high 16.1 points. But he missed the last 13 regular-season games of last season and the playoffs after he was diagnosed with heart arrhythmia in March. Paxson traded Curry to the Knicks last week after the center refused to take a DNA test to see if he's susceptible to a potentially fatal heart problem. Curry balked at the request, saying it violated his privacy, and the Bulls shopped him around. ``Everybody tried to make this an ethical employer-employee issue, which we never thought about,'' Paxson told SI.com. ``We wanted to do everything we possibly could to safely put him back on the floor. We were never allowed to do that.'' Source
Eddy Curry seems stupid. I'm pretty sure Larry Brown and Isiah is gonna force hiim to tkae a test. Its not even about him playing anymore its about his health and he doesn't see that. We just traded three players and some picks for two players who may not even play for us.
why would Paxon say this now? and not before he had to trade him? He's trying to spin stories so the Bulls look like they were looking out for him. If the NBA doctors cleared Curry it's cause he's healthy.... I'm sure they'd keep him off the court if something was not right cause if Curry collapses at all.. the NBA is liable and there's no way in hell Stern wants that over his head. Not only that but the lawsuit would be incalculable.

Maybe it is the bulls trying to look better, but if you knew a player was having heart trouble for the second time in 1 season im sure you would back off of him also. Wheather it be for personal consern or business concern its still about Eddies health. I just pray that he has a long posative career and is not risking death just for a game of basketball. GL NY

Now the trade is official this information can be said, and he can say it without worrying about what the Bulls will do with Curry if teams did not want him after hearing this. He is no longer the Bulls problem so Paxson can speak frankly about him without worrying about hurting his investment or the team. While on the other hand had he said it before he would have hurt his investment. By the way not all doctors cleared Curry a highly regarded doctor Dr. Marion refused to clear Curry unless he got a DNA test done, because he said it may be a reoccurring problem, or even a live threatening one. However, Curry ignored him and took the opinion of another doctor who said he did not need a DNA test and there for cleared him.

Medicine is not black and white, and doctors interpret test results differently. If the problem with Curry was that serious, no doctor would have cleared him. I'm pretty sure the only doctor who didn't clear Eddy Curry was Dr. Marion. And this doctor is basing his decision of speculation, which is why he wanted the DNA testing. I'm sure Eddy Curry has a higher risk at having a heart attack because of his size and playing professional basketball is hard on the body. I think Paxson sounds like a hypocrite if anything from this article. First he acknowledges Eddy Curry had a problem in practice last October, then he goes on to say he wanted to do everything he could to put Eddy Curry back on the court. Why didn't Paxson take all these precautions after the first incident if he's trying to look out for Eddy Curry? He let Curry back on the court and play last season, but now he's against it? Paxson should just move on from this trade, he got plenty in return for Eddy Curry, plus he's not stuck with Curry's contract. It's the Knicks problem now, just let them worry about the ramifications of their decision.
