<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">The league's new collective-bargaining agreement will give the Mavericks and every other team over the salary cap a get-out-of-jail-free card. Owner Mark Cuban must use this card on Finley to develop the sort of team coach Avery Johnson wants to move forward.

Finley has three years and $51.7 million left on his contract. That's too much of a commitment to a player the team is committed to bringing off the bench. It's too much for any other team to assume in a trade.

This scenario allows Finley to keep his money and get a fresh start with a team where he will be viewed as an asset rather than a player in decline. The Mavericks take a major step toward financial flexibility. It's the best solution for what could have been a lingering problem. </div>

This is a good move for the mavs freeing up some cap space.

It doesn't free up cap space, it just saves the Mavs money in luxury tax, and allows them an extra roster spot to develop their younger players.

unfortunately, its what they had to do...Finley has become more of a "chucker" at this stage of his career...he shoots way too much for the Mavs' liking, and his defensive ability has lessened with age...not only that, but he wants big minutes and to be one of the top options offensively, which is just not going to happen with Dallas...it will allow Marquis Daniels/Stackhouse and Devin Harris to see more time though, so I see this as a plus for Dallas...

Finley has played with the Mavs for a long time now and its sad to see they want him gone.

This is a really good move for the Mavs it gives Josh Howard and Marquis Daniels more playing time but then he has been with the Mavs for so long he is the capitain on this squad.

Man I'm real upset about this. I'm a big fan of FInley's. However he was expensive and maybe Dallas can do something with more cap room. Hey remember when we thought Dallas was in trouble after losing Nash? We turned to be just as good as last season. So you never know.
