On paper, the Calgary Stampeders' defensive line made two of the three crucial plays in that fourth-quarter goal-line stand Saturday at Ivor Wynne Stadium against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

The Ticats were first-and-goal from the two when defensive tackle Tom Johnson stopped running back De-Andra' Cobb for a one-yard gain.

On second-and-goal, it was linebacker Malik Jackson who stepped up to stop backup quarterback Adam Tafralis for no gain, but it was the D-line surge that allowed him to make the play.

And while cornerback Brandon Browner gets the credit for the crucial third-down stop, batting away a pass intended for Arland Bruce III in the end zone, as far as he's concerned, the D-line played a major role in that play, too.

"Our D-line got a real good push," Browner explained afterwards. "And that forced (quarterback Kevin Glenn) to change the trajectory of the ball," which, in turn, allowed Browner more time to make the play because the ball was lofted higher.
