"It's time for him to learn," Nelson said. "He's got a good body and a good brain." Nelson says he will begin curbing Stephen Jackson's playing time in an effort to set his rotation during Jackson's seven-game suspension.
Second-year center Patrick O'Bryant might be heading back into Nelson's doghouse after his less-than-impressive home series. "He has the skill, he has the ability. He just can't sustain it," Nelson said of his backup center. "I can't trust him in an NBA game yet - that's my problem with him. I'll have a very short leash on him." -- San Francisco Chronicle

[*]In retrospect, would the Warriors have been better off letting Perovic, the 38th overall pick in the 2006 NBA draft, prepare for another year in Europe -- even if it meant having to pay a larger buyout fee than the $1.5 million that freed him this summer from Partizan Belgrade? "No," Nelson said. "He wanted to come over. It's time for him to learn. He's 7-1, got a good body and a good brain. He'll figure it out."
For those folks who are fantasizing about a "Twin Towers" look with O'Bryant at center and Andris Biedrins at power forward, forget it. "I don't see that they'll be good enough together," Nelson said. "Maybe someday, they're both really young, but not this year." -- Contra Costa Times

I'm not bothered by this. Everyone knows it takes most big men years to fill out. I mean, it's matter of physical maturity and figuring out how to play against the biggest, strongest players in the league. With POB, I think he's a smart player, who is gifted physically with long arms and decent foot speed, but he's too weak for center right now and he lacks experience.
Then with Kosta Perovic, I mean c'mon, he wasn't dominant in Europe so what did we expect? Did we expect Sabonis, Illgauskus, or Zeljko Rebracca? He's also young and very underweight for his position. People say he's slow, so that affects how he would be used here because Nelson wants speed, speed and more speed. When in doubt, go smaller. That is his philosphy. Unless we have Shaq or Duncan, I don't blame him. We have zero post game from the 4 and 5 spots because we don't have talented and strong enough inside threats. Our rebounding won't be very good unless we get a guy who can rebound in addition to playing strong interior D against guards and other bigs. Maybe soon we might see some stuff from Andris Biedrins or Brandan Wright could be both offensive and defensive players, but I'm not holding my breath that they'll be better than 15ppg or that they can counter heavier players. Otherwise, we'll have another MIP player from this team this year or we'll have a rookie of the year player.
Brandan Wright hasn't showed me anything yet and Biedrins looks the same with his role. He didn't have a chance to go isolation on his defender much, but we'll see if he has a stronger offensive punch this year. I think he'll be better, but he won't be 15ppg. If he makes a 12-10 a la Erick Dampier in that one contract year, I believe that might even get him an all-star nod if the usual invites get hurt.
