Daisuke Matsuzaka was taken out of Friday night's game in the top of the fifth inning because of right elbow tightness, the Red Sox announced. Matsuzaka, who had been struggling with his rhythm throughout his start against the Seattle Mariners, surrendered a leadoff single to center to Ichiro Suzuki in the fifth. At that point, Boston manager Terry Francona emerged from the dugout along with assistant trainers Greg Barajas and Masai Takahashi. They met on the mound with Matsuzaka and the rest of the Red Sox infielders for several minutes before Francona elected to pull the right-hander from the game.
