There were few significant surprises on this list, but the early cut of veteran cornerback Donald Mitchell is surprising.

"I just didn't see any plays," Cowboys head coach Bill Parcells said in reference to Mitchell. "We really need someone to step up there at that nickel spot. I was hoping he could do it."

Other players released Tuesday include running back Aveion Cason, who had the team's longest rush from scrimmage last year (63 yards) and linebacker Markus Steele (12 career starts).

The Cowboys also waived punter Ryan Flinn, defensive tackles Shaun Smith and Dave Volk, defensive ends Darrell Lee and John Taylor and wide receiver Cedric James. No surprises in this group.

The Cowboys also placed center Gennaro DiNapoli on PUP (Physically Unable to Perform) because of a stress fracture in his foot. He will be inactive for the first six weeks of the season before the club has to make a decision whether to put him on the active roster or injured reserve.

I hope Cason finds his way south to Miami, I had him as a fantasy back up last year, and he produced for me a bit
