Its beginning to sound like at 22, unless Mike Jenkins, McKelvin, or DRC are available, the choice will be between Stewart or Felix Jones. McKelvin, and DRC are probably long gone at that point, but I've also read that scouts in general aren't as high on DRC as those on the internet. Jenkins is probably gone too at 22....

RBs fall in every draft, so its plausible Stewart is available at 22. I am a little indifferent on this. On the one hand, we do need another RB and Jones and Stewart are that. On the other hand, I am not sure how much I like Jones or Stewart. Its no secret I covet Ray Rice, so maybe its my bias showing....

At 28, its sounding like Cason or Flowers. We couldn't go wrong with either, really. Both were extremely productive last year in college. The knock on Flowers is top end speed, but he turned in a very good shuttle and 3 cone drill. And then there is the fact that QBs had a 12.5 QB rating when they threw at him. And he allowed a 25% completion rate. Yeah, I can get on board with that. Cason is similar. IIRC (and I am too lazy to do it right now), he allowed a 32 QB rating when teams threw at him. Yeah. Sign me up for some of that too.

Maybe I shouldn't care..... because the reality of it is, I would be happier with Cason or Flowers at 22 and Stewart/Jones at 28. The end result is the same, even if its not at the picks I'd prefer to take them at.

Edit: I'll post numbers later for those interested.

Also - anyone listen to Jerry's predraft press conference the other day? It sounded like Brandon Albert was someone we were interested in. Not sure he'll be available when we pick, but I don't think he is a top 10 pick

Also, more props to theogt for this:

I figured you guys would take a look at Kenny Phillips as well too. He's really the only decent safety prospect in this draft, IMO.

I think he'll get a look.... but I would be surprised somewhat if we drafted him. I think we are looking at RB and CB in round 1....

This is, of course, under the assumption someone doesn't slip that we really like.

Would the Pacman signing change the plan to draft a CB in the first? The need wouldn't be as immediate now that you have two solid starters and maybe they look for one in the later rounds.

Jerry said the other day that if a trade for Pacman were to go through, it wouldn't affect their draft plans at all.

As of now, Pacman hasn't been reinstated. While I do believe he will be in the near future, it would be foolish to not plan for a worst-case scenario. That of course means Dallas is still in the market for a CB.

I think Flowers or Cason becomes the pick.

Then, when Pacman does get reinstated, we've got incredible depth/talent with Newman, Henry, Jones, 1st round pick, and Ball.

Which is eons better than Newman, Henry, Reeves, Nate Jones, Oglesby

Makes sense. I remember reading something about Terrance Newman's contract negotiations looming, so they might also want to prepare for the possibility that they can't afford him.

I personally think Cason will be the better corner, but Flowers might be a better fit in Dallas. He's got enough size that he could be converted to a safety if the need arose.

Newman is a FA after this year. And it is something worth keeping in mind come draft day. My guess is it will be Henry who gets the ax next year so that Dallas can keep Newman.

I like Cason a lot.... and I do want Dallas to draft him... but I wouldn't be upset with Flowers either.

Vintage I think you and I agree that the best case scenario is drafting Ray Rice in the 2nd. Still, I think if Stewart or Mendenhall are available then, those are the guys we need to go for. Not only would they combine with Barber for one of the most physical running systems in the league, but I think that they'll prevent us from overpaying Barber; knowing that we've got a potential starter lying in wait.
