So happens the upcoming game against Dallas is in Portland on TNT. Not a normal Blazers broadcast run by "THE" man. *

Which means if you make a sign along the lines of "FIRE VULCAN, NOT KP!" and hold it up, there's at least an outside chance it'll air nationwide (and maybe get Charles Barkley or Kenny Smith rambling something like, "I don't know what those people are doing in Portland, but that team was a joke until Pritchard came around").

May not make a difference, but worth a shot. If I were in Portland I'd make a sign.

(Half the arena wasted their energy booing Hedo Turkoglu the last game I attended. This has got to be worth more than that.)

Anyway, it should be a hell of an interesting game to watch.

Oh yeah--the Mavs are a tough, tough team right now. If Portland can beat them with their new lineup, it'll be huge.

*Just kidding on that one, "THE". Nothing personal.

I'm sure KP would rather have the focus be on the Blazers and not him or his job security.

And if he doesn't then maybe he should go.

Agreed. Unfortunately, his superiors don't seem to share that sentiment. And since they are the ones who need convincing, I think the signs are a great idea. Not to mention, I bet that although KP wants the focus on the team, it might make him feel nice to have fans show him some support.

I'm sure he would, too. So would I.

However, I'd also like to avoid seeing him fired, and risk another PatterNash fiasco as we stumble around looking for a replacement for a guy who was already doing a pretty good job.

I don't think Pritchard is some kind of savior. I don't want to see this team sacrifice wins just to keep its GM. But I'd like upper management to realize that a lot of us fans appreciate the overall job KP has done.

I never help up a "Trade Whitsitt" sign. I never really got behind the rail Portland ran Rasheed and Randolph out on.

I care about winning. A huge reason Portland is a competitive team is because KP made a lot of cagey moves. And I think it'd be pretty cool if fans showed their support for him and made the powers-that-be re-think how they've handled the last week.

Mook, that's a terrific idea. My friends who use my seats have been forwarded your post with my offer to let them use the tickets for free if they make and hold up such a sign that I see on TV.

I'd rep you if I could. I have to spread some more rep points around.

I doubt Barkley knows who/what Vulcan is. I doubt anybody outside of die-hard Blazer fans and those who follow the inner workings of the league really closely, know who Vulcan is.

You're almost certainly right. I suppose the solution is to either:
    1. Hope that a lot of people have such signs, which compels the reporters to do a little bit of research during the game. (It's not that hard to walk up to a guy holding such a sign and ask, "Hey, what's the deal?")
    or
    2. Just have a more generic sign, such as "Save KP's Job" or "Kevin Pritchard for Owner!"

    #2 is probably more likely.

I'm going to the game. Will try to make a sign when I get there. I know they usually have little random booths set up around the concourse for people to make signs. Will try to find it(anyone know what section it is by off hand?) and make a In K.P. We Trust sign. Would love for it to make it on the jumbotron, and then flash over to KP sitting courtside. Wuld be a rather loud ovation, I imagine.

Anyone have access to long rolls of butcher paper? Would be cool to make a long banner saying that to stretch along the back of the upper deck. Just tape it up on the wall or something.

What's the policy on bringing in signs?

I like your idea. Positive signs supporting the GM who has turned around the franchise send a stronger message than "Beam up the Vulcans", or other such negative signs. If you are asked to take down a sign supporting Pritchard, then we'll know for sure that his days are numbered as Blazer GM.

Yeah, as much as I would like to see anti-vulcan type signs, it doesn't do much. I think them, and PA seeing 50 people show up at an NBA game with signs supporting the GM would say something. Is it a small amount of people? Sure. But for the amount of signs that are actually at games, if a high percentage were for a member of the front office, I think that would say a lot. Or more than anti-Vulcan ones would anyways.

Here in Cleveland, they have sign-making stations in the concourse area of arena itself. Do they have those in the RG?

I know they dont like anti higher up stuff. I remember something about a guy being escorted out for making a sign saying "Trade Whittsit" and A few years ago when The team was for sale. Some dude made a sign saying "S.O.S. Terry" (Porter) and they didnt like that much.

    Just announced!

In honor of KP, tomorrow night's game against Dallas is going to be "bring your beaten dog" to the game night.

If you have or know anyone who has a once happy and friendly dog who has been beaten into trembling submission make sure to put him on a really short leash and bring him to the Rose Garden to show your support of KP!
