Devean George agrees to re-sign with Mavericks By JEFF CAPLAN jcaplan@star-telegram.com The Mavericks are now two-for-two in re-signing their own free agents. Devean George, who opted out of the final year of his contract at the end of last season, agreed to rejoin the Mavs on Sunday, according to an NBA source. Terms of the deal were not immediately known, but it's expected that George will sign at least a two-year contract on Wednesday, the first day teams can put pen to paper and make agreements official. The 6-foot-8 swingman was due a little more than $2 million next season had he not opted out. His new deal is expected to be in that ballpark. George's agent, Mark Bartelstein, was not available for immediate comment. George was in the midst of a fine season last year until a knee injury forced him out for much of the second half. He played in 60 games and started 17. He averaged 6.4 points and 3.6 rebounds and 21.4 minutes a game. George is known for his steady defense, and coach Avery Johnson liked his size at the shooting guard position while using him to defend some of the league's top players like Kobe Bryant and Tracy McGrady. The agreement with George comes days after the Mavericks reached terms with sixth man Jerry Stackhouse, who will sign on for another three years for about $21 million. The Mavs still have cards to play in free agency. They have the midlevel exception that is expected to be valued at about $6 million. They also have a $1.83 million exception. Both exceptions can be used to sign one or more players. Free agents still on the Mavs' radar include P.J. Brown (Chicago), James Posey (Miami), Matt Barnes (Golden State) and possibly Mickael Pietrus (Golden State).

Devean George agrees to re-sign with Mavericks By JEFF CAPLAN jcaplan@star-telegram.com The Mavericks are now two-for-two in re-signing their own free agents. Now how would Barnes, Posey or Pietrus be a justified move with George coming back? Counting Stack that would be5 swingmen, with Ager, Bucknerand George. I suppose it's not a bad contingency move, he can hit the open shot.
