"A little groin soreness for No. 1 goalie Kari Lehtonen the past few days in practice has reminded Stars fans just how important the backup goalie position could be this season.Marty Turco and Ed Belfour were among the most durable goalies in the league in their time in Dallas, and the Stars' starting goalie has averaged 64 games played per season for the past 12 years. However, Lehtonen has battled injuries over his career and has played an average of 42.4 games in the past five years in Atlanta.Andrew Raycroft, a 30-year-old veteran, has been under the gun plenty in his career, and he would love to be under the gun again this season for the Stars. Raycroft had his "audition" to become the backup goalie when he played all 60 minutes Tuesday in a 2-1 preseason loss to the Colorado Avalanche in Denver."I think you always want to give yourself a chance to play in the NHL, and that's something I like about this team," said Raycroft, who made 25 saves on 27 shots. "Plus, I think the organization is heading in the right direction and you want to be a part of that."Raycroft won the Calder Trophy as rookie of the year with Boston in the 2003-04 season when he posted a 29-18-9 record. However, the lockout season followed, and Raycroft struggled after a year off when he came back in 2005-06 with an 8-19-2 record."
