"While the Nets absorbed their loss, the Knicks continued their pursuit of Golden State free- agent center Erick Dampier, who is expected to receive a lucrative offer from Atlanta, which has the salary-cap room to meet his demand for a long- term deal starting at $9 million. Sign-and-trade deals that would send Dampier to Memphis, Indiana or the Knicks remain a possibility, but nothing is likely to happen before next week." link Would you guys be okay with letting Damp go for nothing? I am kinda hoping Atl doesn't pull the trigger on Damp.
Just with the K-Mart trade as the most recent thought in my mind, I personally think it would be great for the Warriors to trade Dampier for only draft picks, we'd have no personnel problems for next season, Cohan would be happy he'd have to shell out very little cash, and we'd maybe, hopefully, stay under the cap for next season. Otherwise, I think it's been in a few other older threads, the general thought is that letting Damp walk would be ok, trading Damp for someone Ok would be great, and trading Damp for bad contracts would mean we would form an uprising and overthrow the Mullin republic and declare the Warriors a free country. Ok, not that bad, but you get the picture.
I don't think we could trade Damp for draft picks like Denver, becuase Damps not restricted and Atlanta has the Caproom, but that would be a great deal for the Warriors
I hope Damp stays true to his word and goes to a team on the rise. Atlanta is not going anywhere soon. If he signed there, it would be for the money ONLY. I hope we can convince him to a sign and trade so that he can get more money.
Well the Hawks do have some young players. Terry, Childress, Diaw, Smith, and then add Dampier if you want. That isn't a terrible lineup, a lineup that would actually be very good defensivly i think. And in the East who knows what could happen, look at the Heat last year. So there could be ways to persuade Dampier that the Hawks are on the rise. If they had signed Musselman as their head coach, maybe they'd easily over achieve, and then make the playoffs. However that could had also made Dampier less atractive to the team. But anyway, the Hawks have some good young players. It just depends on how they'd develop. That lineup actually reminds me a lot of the Pistons. They'd have a good scoring PG and decent defender in Terry, even though they aren't "true" PG's(Billups). A good solid fundamental and athletic SG in Childress, sorta like Rip. A freakish defender in Diaw who could become sorta like Prince, and a good center in Dampier somewhat like Ben Wallace. Then they make a trade for Rasheed or maybe SAR? for them and they go and win the NBA championship. Haha I don't know. But I wouldn't say the Hawks are a bunch of young scrubs. Their players could develop still and become very solid players in the NBA.
^^^agreed, add to that the harrington trade (which helps both teams) and atlanta has a decent nucleus...if their draft turns out to be a good one then the hawks could easily be a team on the rise.
I was only okay with Damp walking because I expected the Warriors to have cap room next year, but the Fisher signing took a 5.6 mil bite out of that plan. The Warriors are going to get CREAMED in the press if Damp walks, and probably for good reason. This offseason they've spent about nearly 80 mil over 5-6 years for Foyle and Fisher. Would you rather have that money spent on those two or Damp? I'd would have much rather spent the money on Damp, especially when you consider that the Warriors could have probably resigned Damp for 5 years and no more than 60 mil, probably closer to 50-55 mil. Right now, I'd love to see Damp and NVE traded for an all star caliber sf or sg, even if the Warriors have to include one of their young core to make the trade work. Chad Ford is reporting that the Lakers, Knicks, Griz, Pacers, Hawks, and Wizards all have an interst in Damp. Hopefully a bidding war heats up between the teams and the Warriors end up with someone with star potential. At this point I'd love to get Artest (even if it meant giving up Pietrus, Richardson, or Dunleavy), but I'd take Bender or Swift. The Warriors aren't going to have cap room any time soon, so they might as well get some guys who are under contract for a few years.
Shoot I wasn't even aware how much Atlanta has left to spend. My thoughts were they were going to sign one of the two centers they already have like Pryzbilla or Zelly. If they sign one or the other its going to cost them. I figured if they signed both they can guarantee Damp for sure against all other competitors only if Damp can be convinced that Atlanta is the team to go to. Making the contracts work though is a whole other story. No way is Zelly or Pryzbilla worth a Dampier. So we'd have to take on filler or figure out another way to make this work if we want Zelly or Pryzbilla to replace Dampier (Atlanta's got the best big men so far I think).
The Hawks made a qualifying offer to Pryzbilla at $3.2M a year. I haven't heard any offers to Zelly yet, and I wouldn't be surprised if they let him walk.

But you have to admit when he was healthy he made some impact.
Does anybody think that it is possible for damp to be traded to the kings for brad miller? As far as atlanta goes, I don't see anybody that we could want except childress, and that would make a reunion with monty.

I mean stranger things have happened. Crazy things. Would I do it? I wouldn't. Am I fan of Brad Miller's game? Yes. I think he's a great passer, he's got long arms, he's got a nice touch, he's a good defender. A double double or a triple double waiting to happen. But this dude is getting close to over 10 mil a year on average. That's not good if you're guy is over 35 and struggling with possible foot or knee problems and you want cap flexibility so you can re-sign your young players.
Miller is a high post center and an excellent passer, so I think he probably fits the Kings style a lot better than Damp would.
It doesn't make any sense for the kings to keep him with Miller and Cweb, now healthy. Miller needs the playing time and he's younger and better then divac. Also they got songalia.
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">...the Pacers could certainly benefit from the addition of at least one more quality big man. Whether it?s a player of Dampier?s caliber seems doubtful. Dampier reportedly is close to signing a six-year deal with Atlanta that begins at $9 million.</div> Link Looks like we might get nothing for Damp afterall...
Well most likely it was going to happen. If Atlanta is giving that kind of money, we better hope we can sign a decent backup for whatever is left of the MLE. I'm hoping we can convince Rebraca to play for us.
