<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">WHAT'S TOUGHER than grabbing 23 rebounds against Shaquille O'Neal? A: Doing it again. That was Erick Dampier's first challenge Tuesday night, when he and the Warriors met up with O'Neal and the Lakers for the first time since Nov. 2. That game ended badly for the Warriors -- the Lakers won, 87-72 -- but Dampier's 23 rebounds were a career high. He also scored 14 points, giving some serious legs to his strong getaway this season. Dampier's second challenge Tuesday was trying to reprise his act without much help. With Adonal Foyle still recovering from surgery to his left knee (he has played just three minutes this season), Dampier remains the only true center on the Warriors' roster. O'Neal, of course, is one of the few true centers in the NBA. "Damp has done a fairly good job on Shaq," Warriors coach Eric Musselman said before the game. "We're one of the teams that hasn't had to double (O'Neal). It's important that Damp stays away from unnecessary fouls." What's more satisfying than beating the Lakers at home on a throwback, holiday season night? A Nothing the Warriors have experienced in the past 10 years </div> http://www.bayarea.com/mld/cctimes/sports/...ors/7563749.htm ==================================== Musselman said it best, the Warriors are one of the FEW teams that do not need to double Shaq. That is huge for the Warriors when they match-up against the Lakers. Dampier has a huge body, but then again, Shaq makes him look tiny.
Dampier played exellent. Against the best center in the league, and he stepped it up. I guess we can now officially consider him back from his slump. :Smiles:
that is pretty ownage that they don't double shaq...that's ALL respect for dampier when you're the coach and decide to do that.

Once you have to start doubling down, its easy for the other team to break down your defense. Not having to double Shaq is the key to beating the Lakers IMO.
