From the Insider - <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Dampier wants to play in Memphis. "I have a lot of friends there, and it will be close to home," Dampier said last week. "Plus, I like the fact that they're an up-and-coming team. If they had a center, maybe they would have advanced in the playoffs."</div> The article is a lot longer, but that's all I can post. Chad Ford also goes on to report that all the Grizzlies have to offer Dampier is a six-year, forty million dollar contract. It also goes on to say that Dampier would more than likely ask for a sign-and-trade so he could have a bigger contract. The only problem is that the sign-and-trade would most likely have to include Stromile Swift and Earl Watson. Would you give up all that talent and money for Dampier, because it looks like that's about to happen?
Dampier sucks. Don't sign him, least of all to a six year contract. Get Adonal Foyle, or Lonny Baxter, or Jarron Collins, or Keon Clark, Amal McCaskill, or Mamadou N'diaye before you get Dampier. Long term, I'd rather have Jake Tsaklidis. Or Greg Ostertag. (Yes, my opinion of Dampier is that bad.)
The center position is not an easy one to fill and Damp is one of the best (when he wants to be). He's been pretty mediocre in the years before his contract season. Sound suspicious? He's probably one of the only centers with the complete footwork, ability to run the floor well, play at least 40 minutes a game, and make an impact on defense with rebounding and shotblocking. He's really, really strong. Unfortunately, think Kwame Brown when it comes to his hands. He's got pretty bad hands. But he's a good dunker and decent outlet passer. He could play well on another team, but don't be surprised if he's playing well below what he played last season when he was playing for an undeserved pay raise.
Dampier would be a great pickup. Him and Gasol could be a scary combo at the C and PF spots if Gasol breaks out into a superstar soon. Dampier had always played mediocre(like custodianrules said) in the past but this past season he broke out into one of the leagues best centers. His numbers were amazing and if he can put those numbers or close to them up every night, then like you said it could push Memphis into the second round. Gasol is getting better and they will have more experience now in the playoffs so I wouldnt be suprised if Memphis gets to the second round.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Ezra:</div><div class="quote_post">Dampier sucks. </div> Perhaps you dont remember Jan 12th when he scored 23pts and grabbed 22 rebounds and had 7 blocked shots on your team. Or scored 15pts had 15rebs and 5 blocked shots on Feb 2nd. Or dropped in 14pts, corraled 18 rebs and swatted 2 shots on Feb 25th. Yeah, Dampier sucks.

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Ezra:</div><div class="quote_post">He does.</div> Care to elaborate? I don't think Dampier is worth the money he wants, but he's still one of the top centers in the league and better than anything the Grizzlies have in the middle. The Grizzlies need a big man to get into the second round out West. It's a tough call, because the Grizzlies might have to give up a lot of their depth to the Warriors to acquire Dampier. The ideal scenario would have Dampier settling for less money, in order to keep the Grizzlies roster intact and make a strong run in the playoffs. You have to wonder about a player with Dampier's attitude coming to a cohesive Memphis team. I don't think Hubie Brown is going to tolerate him on the team, and I doubt Jerry West makes gives in to his demands, unless he can trick the Warriors into an unfavorable deal.

Damp has said he wants to play for a playoff capable team. If that was the case, he would do like Malone and Payton and do what you say and take a pay cut to play for a winning team. Instead, he will probably go to a team like the Wizards, who will pay him the most money, and make up some BS line about how "capable" the Wizards are to making the playoffs and that is why he chose this team, blah blah blah.

Dampier wants to make money and be an All-Star, and with Yao Ming and Shaq in the West, he has no hope. The only way he could be one and rack in the cash is in the East. Washington wants him and would pay him. In an ideal situation, the Wizards can have their former Warriors form a inside-outside duo and, might actually make the playoffs. Everything is picture-perfect for Damp there!
But if he is smart he will go to Memphis, Wizards have no plan, no direction. With the Grizzlies he would join in a future contender with Jerry West as GM... if I were pro I would go to Memphis in a heartbeat

I don't mean he sucks as in he can't play basketball, or be effective when he wants to be. He sucks in the Allan Houston mixed with Keith Van Horn sense of the word.
Jerry West is still after Dampier,so he must know something we all dont.Personally I dont like his career stats or that he is injury prone. But Who knows he may be just getting into his prime.Another thing he has said he would like to play for Memphis because they are on the rise and that its close to Home. But any trade for him would have to include a sign and trade.
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">July 19, 2004 -- It's D-Day for Erick Dampier. The Warriors have accepted the Knicks' sign-and-trade offer of Nazr Mohammed and Othella Harrington, but before agreeing to sign with the Knicks, Dampier, the 7-foot free-agent center, has a meeting with the Hawks' brass today in Atlanta, sources said. The Knicks want Dampier to visit New York tomorrow before he makes his decision, which could come as soon as today, but Knicks president Isiah Thomas has had phone conversations with Dampier. The Knicks have offered Dampier six years starting at $9 million after Thomas met Saturday night in L.A. with agent Dan Fegan. </div> http://www.nypost.com/sports/knicks/25353.htm Oh well.
damp doesnt suck damp will suck this year cuz hes lazy but overall, if he tries, damp doesnt suck if its his contract year, he wont suck get it?
Well, we if we want one of those, we'll just resign Stro'. On good days he's the best player in the game. They're just few and far between, that's all.
