The two women have become free agents in the MMA world and they want to fight each other, so they are angling to sign with the same promotion. Though Dana White has been adamant about not wanting female MMA in the UFC, there might be a place for them in the UFC's feeder promotion, the WEC. This is supposing Affliction doesn't throw a pile of money at them in the near future.
Heeeeeeey that's what I suggested!! Adding exciting women's fights to the already great WEC?!?! sign me up! next up... WEC on CBS!
Hopefully if they do it, it isn't a one-off and that's it. They need to build a division. In the major camps (Jackson's, Couture's, etc.) there are female fighters now. It might take a couple more years before there are viable title fights but if Dana is honest when he talks about investing in the future of the sport, he should be looking at female MMA too.
This is what Dana had to say at the Post UFC 91 press conference. "Gina Carano is a star, and I think she's talented," White said. "I think she has all the tools, so what I'm willing to do is bring Gina into the WEC. We could do fights whenever there's a challenge for Gina. That's how I'll test the waters and see how it goes." I think the fight would go well and we'd start to see more woman's MMA in the WEC to replace the lost 185 and 205 division's and I think it'd be great!!
Carano's fights have all been entertaining. Her fight against Julie Kedzie at the first Elite XC really put women's MMA on the map. In fact, I have yet to see a really boring women's match. The skills and athleticism are there. I haven't seen any woman look as amaturish as Kimbo Slice.
