Ok game 3...we lost by about 5, terrible game for me...I couldn't hit anything even my open shots, I had alot of passes to our Center who is a machine! he scored most of our points and only 3 people on our team scored, I finished with about 11 assists if I counted correctly, I had around 5 blocks but the ref was a bum, 3 were on a girl on their team, the first on a fast break and I hit it out, it was a big swat and I knew it couldn't of been a foul, I heard a whistle and thought it was just because the ball went out, I walked to my teammates and was about to do the Mutumbo wave at them just for fun, but then I heard "Foul on number 12 (Normally number 9 but we have to wear bibs until our Jerseys are made) reaching across the body" and I knew it was bull**** but I didn't say anything, the other 2 were also clean blocks, weren't as big but still, on the same girl and the same call, I also was called for travelling when I pump faked then dribbled making sure the ball hit the ground first, so when he called it I was like "What?!" then I just shot it anyway he said "WHEN THE WHISTLES BLOWN YOU DON'T SHOOT! YOU HAND THE BALL TO ME" or something like that, so I didn't say anything and walked away and he said "LOOK AT ME WHEN I'M TALKING TO YOU" I just continued walking stopping myself from saying anything that would give me a tech foul.

Oh just another note, there were two refs, one was an old man (the one that said all that stuff stated above) and one about 15, and the one who was about 15 also plays on a team, we played them last week, during that game I went for a steal and he swung his other arm across and his elbow hit my face, I screamed "What the **** is your problem" at him after I got called for 'reaching', so he doesn't really like our team, oh yeah and during that game one of my teammates swore at the old guy and got suspended for 2 weeks haha, good stuff...

Wait...I don't quite get Australian basketball:

    1) What is social team? Is it a rec league or is it a rep team?

    2) You play with girls?

    3) What are bibs?

    4) You actually keep your own stats? The only thing I can keep track of is how many I scored.

Other than that, it seems like your team doesn't have any championship hopes huh? [IMG]

I'll try to get a thread like this up as well when I begin my minor league season. Gonna feature my view from the bench. [IMG]

    1. Social league is like an unserious one, just at a club...
    2. Yeah I know it sucks because you're forced to go easy on them, and since its social its not split up into males/females...
    3. Bibs are little things u were over ur tops that just have a number on front and back..
    4. Yes I do and good for you [IMG]

    No we don't

Man, your team sounds like it sucks, no offense. But from those stats, it looks like you got a nice all around game. I mean, it looks like you're a capable scorer, low post player, and assist man. By the way, it really sucks you have to play against girls. Its mad easy to block against them since their shots are whack and no one can play post against them since they can't elbow around. How tall are you anyway?

Last season in my rec league I averaged something around 8 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 assists. I mainly had to play small forward, powerforward, and center. We got all the way to the "Final Four" and lost to our "rival" team in the last seconds. We were up by ten points but the other guys came back. Okay, long story short, I set a pick for my point, they call a foul on me, they miss their free throws, and I grab the rebound to zip it over to the point guard. But with like seventy seconds left, he chucks up a double teamed three while I'm left open under the basket. We lost by one point. I got a growth spurt over the summer so I'm around 5-11 now but I still got the handles to play point but got the height to play center. Which really is pretty sad since I really don't think I'm that tall.

We do suck, i'm the first to admit that, also i'm about 5'7 and I play the point...Besides from our Center (and I lol!) there's no one that stands out as a good player, i'm a good dribbler, decent shooter (but inconsistent) and I think I have good court vision, say if the members on my team could hit all their open shots I set up for them i'd average about 20 assists a game, I know I sound cocky but I think that's the truth, I mean the defence isn't that good either so it's not that hard to set them up.

On our team here's a descripton of all of them...

Center - My favourite target, none of us are considered tall but he's the tallest of us all, has a nice shot from the outside, great rebounding hustle, scores alot of inside points, great blocker especially for his size, can dribble but often doesn't also doesn't like to put it back up whenever he grabs an offensive rebound.

Power Forward - Good player, he likes to show off a bit with his handles (even though he's not that great), his jumpshot is ok I guess, some will go in most are either way too strong or way too weak, alot of his bank shots will go in and he likes a running shot while dribbling on the sides whic often goes over the ring, good perimeter defender, gets some rebounds, ok passer but often tries the 1-2 pass that never works for us..

Small Forward - Shooting Guards brother, he's an inconsistent shooter, I feel sorry for him sometimes because he doesn't shoot much, lately he's been shooting more but makes stupid decisions, for example I set him up when he was open and he didn't shoot, tried to pass it inside when someone was in front of our Center, obviously a turnover, and sometimes he shoots when someone taller is right in front of him, I dunno though, o and he doesn't show off like his brother...

Shooting Guard - Umm well he is the biggest showoff on the team, he's about the same height as me, he's a decent dribbler I guess he's what I call the "Baller" of the team, he's the one that shows off his handles (even though like I said he isn't that good as he has to look at the ball when dribbling) and always talks about breaking peoples ankles and posterizing them, he really frustrates me in games, especially when he is dribbling at halfcourt when there's no one guarding him trying to show off but IMO just making a fool of himself, he travels every second posession and gets frustrated, swears and once even kicked the ball (just about hit the ceiling) he's also a hog, lol!

Point Guard - Ah thats me! Well like I said i'm a decent shooter, good passer and pretty good rebounder, i'm basically on the only player on our team who boxes out, I can probably handle the ball better then anyone on the team, but for me I know when to use moves without thinking about it before-hand where as our shooting guard will think of something to do then try and execute it instead of letting it come to him....

I know I sound cocky, but really i'm not, I used to be modest and saying I suck all the time but that didn't help anyone, so know i'm just stating the truth, if I think of more to add I will but thats it for now....

I scored 12 points in about 20 games in my rec league last season. We did win the championship but I was just the backup PF. If I had to ballpark an average, I'd have numbers like 1.3 points, 3 rebounds and 1 assist per game...I'm 5-9 playing PF.

This year though, I think I'll do better because two friends from school are joining as well, and we'll be guaranteed to be on the same team because we're carpooling. They'll actually get me the ball. Last season, everyone else on my team knew each other and froze me out on offense basically. Out of the 12 I scored, about 8 were from putbacks. I did shoot something like 6-10 though......[IMG]

Next game we play a team where pretty much all of their players (besides from about 2) are our friends, we play with them at school everyday, to be honest they're not that good, we thought when they'd join our league they'd do terribly, guess what? they're the top team!! how does that happen you ask, well they aquired 2 other players, one also from our school who doesn't play with us often but sometimes does, he scores alot of their points and recently they got a player who plays state, a top district player...In other words..A very good player...

So I doubt we can win...

... you guys should be named the Pessimists or something. Have some faith in your team! My rec team used to have the worst record in the league but last year went and lost only three games and went to the top four.

Just finished that game, we got destroyed...the top player I was talking about dominated, he scored about 30 points (more then our whole team combined) thing was him and another guy know the people there and were talking to them alot...Also our shooting guard had AT LEAST 20 Travels! I only scored 2 points on a floater shot, I took about 6 shots, 1 assists, dunno how many boards...Also that state player charged into me, I had my feet planted and I get called for the foul, my scab opened up and my knee was bleeding...

    Either way, we're 0-4

I haven't seen a league like that before. Im from Aus. My step brother used to play in a uni-sex league. There always had to be 2 girls on court and 3 boys at one time. It was interesting to watch. Haven't seen anyone where a bib on a social competition b4.

I don't see how it has anything to do with basketball around the world. The difference about basketball around the world is the philisophy of play. eg. The emphasis of defense in USA.. The emphasis on shooting in Europe (same as in Aus). And the only other type of basketball I know is Filipino basketball which has a real emphasis on running and the fast break.

But as for wearing bibs or unisex competitions, I don't think that's right to say that that's how "Australians" play basketball because it isn't. It's jus an interesting set up of a certain social league which may have similar styles in other countries.
