Memphis is ready to part with Darko for a PF, after they missed out on Josh Smith. they are having talks with the Knicks, for Zach Randolph. source How about Stro + Sean for Darko? I know Darko is considered a bust, but he is still a very skilled, very athletic player, who really knows how to defend. And he is only one year older than Sean. right now our only legit center is Lopez, who is a rookie. and we really need to do something with our PF situation. What do you guys think?
Just as I said above... becaouse we need to get rid of two PFs, and we need to get a legit C... mainly for roster math, but also Darko is everything Sean is. Even in shotblocking. But Darko is way stronger and tougher. better offense and better defense... also only 1 year older than Sean. Why wouldn't we want this trade?
Darko is nothing that Sean is in shotblocking. I think you're getting to hyped up in where he was drafted. He's come into the league and demonstrated a lot of what he's capable of, and it's nothing too impressive. What you see is what you get. Sean can become a much better player on both ends.
Maybe you are right.. but will he become what he can in NJ? he is clearly not a center, and is behind Yi, Boone and Najera at PF on our team... I'm still high on Darko though, and he is just as good of a shotblocker as Sean.. I don't see why you say he is not... it's not just the hype, it's the stats. They have the same blocks per minute, but Darko doesn't have to gamble to get it. Darko is legit 7 feet, while Sean has a SF's body..
Sean has those monster blocks off his energy that if harnessed could be game changing stuff, granted that is a big if. He's also a good free throw shooter with the ability to get to the line and has a decent post game despite being away from the game for over a year. Darko is a solid player and I do think his shot blocking is underrated because he isn't flashy about it. While I think Darko could do well in a system like ours from a skills standpoint, he's also a complainer who has trouble following directions and has trouble staying out of foul trouble against quality players at the 5 spot, the one we'd ideally bring him in to play. For those reasons i'd much rather take the time to develop Sean slowly, even if he doesn't get PT we hope he will, because with the number of players we have now we can afford to do so. I'll take Darko after Collins gets a good season of teaching him the ropes defensively and if for some reason Sean is just spinning his tires on his potential, but only then.
If we were able to land Darko/Warrick or Darko/Lowry, I'd be more willing to give up Sean/Whatever to make salaries work. But if we're just talking about Darko for Sean/filler, I'm passing.
According to the salary page Darko only has 2 years left. Not sure I want to do this. I think I rather send Sean to the D-league. More than anything we need another scorer... bad. A 6th man at the wing position. Darko is an awfully expensive 3rd center. Think I rather just send Swift to Minny for Collins.
He's not better than Boone. And why bring in a guy that would push your highly touted rookie to 3rd string?
Maybe they think Swift will be more productive for them than Collins? The Nets did. They both make the same money and have one year left. It's not crazy.
It was crazy when the Nets did it (trying to appease Kidd). It would be crazy for TWolves to do it. But I'm all for it.
Looks like i'm way higher on Darko than you... Why do you say he is not better than Boone? I think he is much better... even if they are on the same level, Darko's size makes him worth much more. I don't like Boone as a full time C. I'd rather share most of the C minutes between Darko and Lopez. Boone should get the remaining C minutes and some more at PF. If we can trade Sean and Stro, Boone will have minutes at PF too behind Yi and Najera. (I don't think Anderson can get PT aside from garbage minutes with this PF situation.)
Hopefully the T'wolves are like most people and they see no value in him. I'm sure he was salary filler in that Memphis deal. He'd be great to work with all these big guys and be the 3rd center.
Well, the Wolves do have McHale as a GM. So, it's entirely possible we could pull that off. Unless we actually find someone to trade with, and get good value for Swift. BTW, I would not want Darko. He isn't worth what he's being paid. He's not all that great. And IMO he's not all that better than Boone in anything other than size.
I agree with you Pegs. The only difference is that I think, if someone is just as good as Boone in everything, only that he has legit size, than this player is a legit starting C in the league. Actually if Boone was 7feet, he would be a very good C imo.
